The Experience
Caro and Seán are passionate about organic and biodynamic wine, and on this ancient estate they will immerse you in the intricate and fascinating world of growing, creating and understanding it.
The setting is utterly lovely, with views pouring over steeply sloping ranks of vines, rolling hills and woodland. Your lodge, previously a ‘chai’ (winery), has been thoughtfully and eco-consciously converted – inside are honeyed oak and poplar, natural paints on hemp, chalk and stone walls and big windows for those marvellous views. Rainwater is harvested, and solar panels are on the way too.
It’s a short walk to Saussignac to order your daily bread from the community café and a superb restaurant. In fact, you could spend days here without using the car – a cycle ride along the Grande Randonnée, a stroll in the woods and vineyards, a lazy afternoon’s reading beneath a shady fig or swimming in the saltwater pool.

We have been priveliged to stay here on several occasions since Seán and Caro acquired the property. The fact that we cannot resist going back again and again tells a story. Caro and Sean are such generous hosts. Their two cottages are lovely. The location is idyllic and handy for trips to Bergerac and Bordeaux as well as the many tried and tested markets around the area. Relaxing on the deck with lovely food and a glass of La Source … heaven ! We will be back again.

We were privileged to be able to enjoy a week’s stay at Chateau Feely in April. Although the weather was slightly chilly, the warmth of Caro’s welcome made for a delightful stay that managed to include several lunches outside on the patio. The Lodge was wonderfully equipped, the bed was comfortable, the living area was well-lit for reading, and the sunrises were spectacular. Caro was very helpful with her recommendations both on the website and in person. The high points of our visit, however, we were the daily visits from the family dog! We hope to return again in 2024.

We spent a week staying in the Wine Lodge at Chateau Feely in early autumn with our young family. Caro was a fabulous host going out of her way to make us feel welcome whilst oozing knowledge and enthusiasm for organic biodynamic wine making. The location of the lodge is amazing with beautiful views over the vineyard and beyond. The kids loved the freedom of exploring the vineyard, foraging for walnuts, almonds, figs and the odd grape left after harvest. The parents loved the delicious wine. Highly recommended.

Location
The neighbourhood
Saussignac is less than 1km away – it has an excellent restaurant. The small town of Gardonne (4km) has shops and a few places to eat including a pizzeria, and Sainte-Foy-la-Grande (11 km) has a fabulous farmers' market on Saturday mornings. The bigger town of Bergerac (18km) has everything you could need.
Local points of interest from Caro & Seán Feely
- Breakfast on the balcony taking in stunning views of organic vineyards and dreaming about what you are going to do today. Bird watch and deer-spot as you enjoy some of the best croissants in France available from nearby Gardonne boulangerie.
- Explore the local area on foot - delight in historic chateaux, charming villages, and exceptional landscapes –depart on a vineyard path directly from Chateau Feely.
- Read Caro's Grape Expectations, the first book in the Vineyard Series in a hamac under the trees (both houses have a selection of great holiday reads). Then take a delicious dip in the saltwater pool.
- Explore old town and characterful market in Bergerac 20 minutes away. Discover the wonders of a Unesco recognised Biosphere - The Dordogne River - by booking a kayak in Gardonne just 5 minutes away.
- Evenings wind down with great wine and wide vineyard views — shoes off, shoulders relaxed. Birds calling across the valley and wine poured just metres from where it was made. Or stroll to Melange restaurant in Saussignac then enjoy a starlit walk home.
- Develop your aroma brain on the discovery wine tour or stretch yourself with yoga in the vines - both available right here on site at Chateau Feely. We look forward to sharing this magical place with you!

Introducing
Caro & Seán Feely
Enthusiastic and smiley Caro and Seán (originally from South Africa, and with Irish roots) live here with their two cats. They bought the vineyard in 2005 to follow their dream of creating great wines on fine terroir, and Caro, who does the meet and greet, has written five books on their experiences. She's happy to ferry guests to and from the station in Gardonne.
We stayed at Chateau Feely in their Wine Lodge for one week, and had a fantastic time. You can trust the photos on the homepage. We did a tour to Saint-Émilion with Caro and enjoyed it very much. We can fully recommend the Wine Lodge and would love to come back in future!
