The Experience

Caro and Seán are passionate about organic and biodynamic wine, and on this ancient estate they will immerse you in the intricate and fascinating world of growing, creating and understanding it.

The setting is utterly lovely, with views pouring over steeply sloping ranks of vines, rolling hills and woodland. Your lodge, previously a ‘chai’ (winery), has been thoughtfully and eco-consciously converted – inside are honeyed oak and poplar, natural paints on hemp, chalk and stone walls and big windows for those marvellous views. Rainwater is harvested, and solar panels are on the way too.

It’s a short walk to Saussignac to order your daily bread from the community café and a superb restaurant. In fact, you could spend days here without using the car – a cycle ride along the Grande Randonnée, a stroll in the woods and vineyards, a lazy afternoon’s reading beneath a shady fig or swimming in the saltwater pool.

Reviews

A relaxing three day break at Chateau Feely combined all our favourite things - being close to nature, fine wine, fabulous food and of course good company. Thank you to Caro and Sean for sharing your story with us, for your warm welcome and your helpful hints in relation to what to do in the area. Having read Caro's books about making a life and a living in France, it felt really special to visit and experience the fruits of their efforts. Wishing them continued success.

We had an amazing stay in The Wine Lodge, Caro went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The wine tasting and vineyard tour was excellent . We can't wait to come back in Harvest Season ! Thank you for everything, Mike & Olivia x

Olivia, Leixlip

We stayed at Chateau Feely in their Wine Lodge for one week, and had a fantastic time. You can trust the photos on the homepage. We did a tour to Saint-Émilion with Caro and enjoyed it very much. We can fully recommend the Wine Lodge and would love to come back in future!

Michael, Villach

We have been priveliged to stay here on several occasions since Seán and Caro acquired the property. The fact that we cannot resist going back again and again tells a story. Caro and Sean are such generous hosts. Their two cottages are lovely. The location is idyllic and handy for trips to Bergerac and Bordeaux as well as the many tried and tested markets around the area. Relaxing on the deck with lovely food and a glass of La Source … heaven ! We will be back again.

We were privileged to be able to enjoy a week’s stay at Chateau Feely in April. Although the weather was slightly chilly, the warmth of Caro’s welcome made for a delightful stay that managed to include several lunches outside on the patio. The Lodge was wonderfully equipped, the bed was comfortable, the living area was well-lit for reading, and the sunrises were spectacular. Caro was very helpful with her recommendations both on the website and in person. The high points of our visit, however, we were the daily visits from the family dog! We hope to return again in 2024.

A perfect place to immerse yourself in the world of bio dynamic wines.

We spent a week staying in the Wine Lodge at Chateau Feely in early autumn with our young family. Caro was a fabulous host going out of her way to make us feel welcome whilst oozing knowledge and enthusiasm for organic biodynamic wine making. The location of the lodge is amazing with beautiful views over the vineyard and beyond. The kids loved the freedom of exploring the vineyard, foraging for walnuts, almonds, figs and the odd grape left after harvest. The parents loved the delicious wine. Highly recommended.

We had a superb couple of weeks staying for the second time at Château Feely. The properties and location are stunning and tranquil. There are so many things to do in the area with kids; chateaux, walking, historic towns, prehistoric caves and of course Château Feely's own wine tours and tastings, not to mention the delightful swimming pool overlooking vines and Château de Saussignac. Caro & Sean were very obliging in helping us to charge our electric car on site. The highlight of the holiday was being fortunate enough to take part in the start of the grape harvest. Highly recommended!

Chateau Feely is one of those very rare places where high expectations are massively exceeded. We stayed for 3 nights B&B in the beautiful Wine Lodge, we had planned to do lots of eating out and lots of visiting but it was such a peaceful environment with an amazing terrace overlooking the vineyard we didn’t actually go very far (well as far as the lovely pool!). Caro was a delightful host and we enjoyed learning all about the estate both from reading her books and from our wine tasting session. Overall a beautiful place to stay and we look forward to a return visit.

We had a lovely stay in the wine lodge. Caro made sure we had everything we needed, and had helpful suggestions for local sights. We did a lunch wine pairing class - which was fun and yummy. We were happy to have the pool - since temperatures soared to over 40 degrees C. The space was very comfortable for 4 adults - and baths and showers worked well. We had access to laundry - which was great given how hot and sticky we got each day. The VIEWS ARE AMAZING - we all have fabulous pictures from the deck. There are lots of wineries, towns and cities within 1 hour so no shortage of things to do.

Cynthia, Toronto

We spent a wonderful relaxing week in the Wine Lodge. Caro and Sean are so welcoming and helpful. We did a tour of their vineyard and had a wine tasting with Caro. Also a pool to cool down if it gets too hot. The winelodge is very well equipped and comfortable. The perfect place to locate to visit the Dordogne region. Lovely restaurant Le Lion d'Or for dinner just a short walk through the vineyards to the village of Saussignac. We will have to go back so much more to do and see.

Mary, Kilkenny, Ireland

A little bit of paradise in France. The accommodation was lovely with all the home comforts you would expect and you are made to feel very welcome by all from the minute you arrive. The views from the wrap around balcony were stunning, looking out over the vineyards and beyond. I would recommend staying at Chateau Feely with no hesitation.

A lovely week staying at the Wine Lodge, Chateau Feely, Saussignac. Great Gite with everything you need supplied. Surrounded by vineyards and the rolling hills of Bergerac. Very interesting learning about the Biodynamic/Organic wines.

John, Sidmouth, Devon

Wonderful from start to finish. Wine delicious. Village of Saussignac charming, spent a day at the fête which was fun. Hosts brilliant

Jean

It was a lovely stay. The Gite is perfect. We stayed in the Wine Lodge. It was immaculate. The views simply stunning and very peaceful. The area is perfect for a relaxing break.

We had a fabulous stay at the Feely's Wine Lodge which was perfect for our first holiday with our one year old twins and very spacious for all their paraphernalia. The vineyard and the view over it from the lodge are beautiful and there are lovely walks from the lodge in the surrounding area. The lodge and the gorgeous organic vineyard created through Caro and Sean's foresight and hard work are an inspiration. We hope that we'll be able to return in the future.

Patricia, York

Although we spent more than three weeks wine tasting our way through France, the week we spent with Caro & Sean Feely at their fabulous Wine Lodge was absolutely the highlight of our trip. Caro took on on a tour & tasting in St. Emillion that was spectacular. We loved the accommodations. We awoke each morning to a gorgeous view of the vineyard. We will definitely return.

Allison, Seattle, Washington

We had a delightful 2 week stay in the wine lodge. The accommodation and the views from the private terrace were fantastic. Caro and Sean are justifiably proud of their organic and biodynamic vineyard producing lovely red and white wines. Their warmth and hospitality made us feel really welcome.

Richard

We really enjoyed our weeks stay, in this tranquil and peaceful setting. Ideally placed for enjoying all that the Berberac region has to offer, including excellent wines and food. We would strongly recommend this as a great base for a relaxing holiday. Anne and Ellis

Anne

We spent a wonderful 10 days in the Wine Lodge with our 10 month old little girl in May 2015. What a fantastic time. The lodge was very comfortable and perfectly equipped for our family stay. The setting of the vineyard is on a beautiful hilltop location and is a lovely stroll into the village for lunch at the Lion D'Or. The Wine Lodge is a really relaxing spot to wind down and sample French country life - strolling through the vines, feeding the chickens and tasting some great wine from Terroir Feely!

Introducing

Caro & Seán Feely

Enthusiastic and smiley Caro and Seán (originally from South Africa, and with Irish roots) live here with their dog called Dora and two cats. They bought the vineyard in 2010 to follow their dream of creating great wines on fine terroir, and Caro, who does the meet and greet, has written three books on their experiences. She's happy to ferry guests to and from the station in Gardonne (4km) on arrival/departure.
