The Experience

This chic, understated B&B is next to a leafy park in a quiet part of Bordeaux. Gildas lives on-site with his wife and is genuinely friendly; he’ll tell you all about the house and area and give you a bottle of his family’s claret to try – you can visit their vineyard too.

Breakfast is a la carte and includes fruit, cheese, avocado toast, organic yoghurt and granola, plus eggs however you like them and pastries, bread and jams. Stay in and relax in the sitting area in your room, or the ground floor living area which has a bar and courtyard garden.

You’re minutes from dozens of good restaurants and the trendy Chartrons quarter, as well as the main town centre for art museums and the river. Rent bikes to explore, take a picnic to the park, ask Gildas about dinners using seasonal produce from the market.

One of the loveliest B&B's I have visited in a long time because of the originality and elegance of its design, the fabulous location - Les Chartrons seems like a village within a city - and the warm and interesting hosts.

The neighbourhood

The house is right next to the leafy Jardin Public park and is a two-minute walk from fashionable Chartrons, which feels like a village in the centre of town and has interesting shops, cafes and bars. The main town centre is a ten-minute walk away; here you’ll find theatres and art museums (such as Musée des Beaux-arts, Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design and the Musée d'art Contemporain de Bordeaux). Take the tram to the other end of town and check out the weekly flea market or cross the river and visit the old factory turned organic food market and the Cite du Vin museum.

Local points of interest from Gildas Quellien

  • Private tour to the family vineyard called Chateau Lusseau is available on request
  • The beautiful medieval village of Saint Emilion is located 40 kilometers away from the B&B
  • It takes only an hour to reach the Dune du Pyla, the tallest sand dune in Europe. Around the same amount of time to make it to the picturesque oyster farmer's village of Cap Ferret
  • We love sharing our restaurant's tips with our guests
  • A 4 minute walk from the B&B will take you to Rue Notre Dame, filled with fantastic antique shops
