The Experience
Vineyards surround the Duhamels’ restored 15th-century Girondine home and Bruno is keen to show you around and share his passion for their organically produced Côtes de Bourg wines. He’s also in charge of breakfasts – honey, fresh orange juice, homemade brioche and jams – served indoors or on the terrace, with uninterrupted views. Dinner, with terroir wine of course, can be arranged; perhaps after visiting Bordeaux, 30 minutes south. Bedrooms are spotless and spacious – no frills, no surprises! – with gleaming new floors and windows, and modern bathrooms. It’s peaceful here, with lovely walks through the vines.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Chateau l'Hospital. The location is very peaceful and in beautiful surroundings. Bruno and Christine were the perfect hosts. Delicious breakfasts which set us up well for the day, good advice on where to go and what to see and the opportunity to taste a variety of the excellent wines they produce with some very tasty accompaniments (at additional cost but well worth it).

We experienced a wonderful stay of 4 nights with Bruno and Christine who are the most charming hosts. Excellent breakfast, and we booked a meal on our first night and wished we had asked if they could cater for us on other nights as well. Wonderful food and of course selections of their own wine. Bruno is an avid golfer who arranged a discounted rate for us at Golf de Margaux, and we can’t forget the practice/ pitching area at their property among the vines. What’s not to like ….. we hope to return.

We had three fabulous days at L'Hospital, exploring the Medoc, Blaye and Bordeaux. Christine and Bruno were the perfect hosts, generous with advice about the area and wisdom about wine. We were lucky enough to enjoy dinner and a selection of their wines on our last night which was superb. I can thoroughly recommend a stay at this magical place.

We had the most wonderful stay at Bruno & Christine's beautiful home. They could not have made us more welcome and included an informative wine tour on our two day stay. We had meals both nights which were delicious & copious amounts of the fantastic wines they produce organically. They are generous hosts & we felt privileged to stay there. Also felt it was exceptionally reasonable price wise. Stay there you will not be disappointed. Carole & Nigel Maddie & Tom

Local points of interest from Christine & Bruno Duhamel
- Complimentary wine tasting for all guests! Including a variety of wines from the chateau, it is accompanied by a presentation about the process of wine making: from vine-pruning, grape growing and harvest to the transformation from grape juice to wine.
- We are 10 minutes away from Blaye’s jetty and Vauban’s citadel (UNESCO's site). Hop on a ferry to explore the Medoc and its Route des Vins (with prestigious names such as Margaux, St Julien, St Estèphe) and the long sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.
- Perfect your golf skills on our new practice/putting green.
- Enjoy a game of boules on our new petanque pitch!
- Last 3 photos of our gallery courtesy of Didier Ferry.

Loved it here! We stayed for 2 nights and had dinner both nights with a selection of wine, as well as a tour of the winery. The hosts were away at the Olympics but we were very well looked after by their daughter, a palaeontologist, who was really interesting and great fun. Our room was full of character and very comfortable. We really enjoyed a day visiting the citadel in Braye, followed by relaxing next to the vines and watching some hoopoes flying around. Lovely experience!
