The Experience
Wake to a simple but splendid breakfast in the inviting salon: fresh breads and pastries; stewed fruits; coffee, hot chocolate and teas. Brigitte’s attention to detail runs throughout this excellent city-centre haven.
Bedrooms are named after historic writers. Montesquieu is the largest, Mauriac the lightest, and Montaigne the cosiest. Each has its own small patio and there’s a decked terrace too, bright with hydrangeas and camellias.
This stylish oasis in wine-soaked Bordeaux stands 150m from the river where the merchants once traded; the Quai de Bacalan is lined with their houses. A 20-minute stroll brings you to the most interactive wine museum in the world, the Cité du Vin, while CAPC, the Museum of Contemporary Art, is ten minutes away. Cafes, bars and boutiques abound.

We spent 2 nights at L'Esprit des Chartrons, not long enough! It is a very comfortable B&B, and close to the centre of Bordeaux. Lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Also it offers car parking if you are touring. Brigitte is an excellent and responsive host. Highly Recommended.

A beautiful place to stay in beautiful Bordeaux. The Chartrons area is full of life and only a short walk from the historical centre, but the street is calm plus the bedrooms are at the back of the house. The rooms stay cool even in summer heat thanks to the thick walls. The owner was away, but her husband provided the excellent breakfast and made sure we were well taken care of. The communal space is a charming bonus on top of the very comfortable room (Montesquieu).

We had a lovely stay at L´Esprit des Chatrons. The room was very cosy and every room has an own beautiful terrace. It´s an excellent location, absolutely quiet, but within easy walking distance of Bordeaux´s attractions.

Location
The neighbourhood
The Quartier des Chartrons, a village in the heart of the city, bursts with restaurants, galleries, antique shops, and boutiques. Its renewal is no more evident than in the fabulous warehouse conversions that line the Garonne, one of which houses the Museum of Contemporary Art. You can walk into the city centre, catch the tram, and stroll the quays. Don’t miss the Sunday farmers' market on the Quai des Chartrons, or the flea market on the square of the Basilica St Michel.
Local points of interest from Brigitte Gourlat
- 'L'Esprit des Chartrons' is situated right in the heart of the Chartrons region, famous for its antiques shops and wine producers.
- The historic town centre of Bordeaux is just 10 minutes walk away - perfect for a stroll along the picturesque 'Quais de Garonne' or an afternoon discovering the city's impressive 18th century architecture (listed as a UNESCO heritage site).

Introducing
Brigitte Gourlat
Brigitte and her husband, both smiley and welcoming, divide their time between Bordeaux and their house in Espelette. They know both areas very well and one of them is always on hand to help and advise if you need it.
L'Esprit des Chartrons is the perfect place to stay if you are visiting Bordeaux. The location is ideal, very quiet street but nearby lots of amazing local restaurants (no tourist traps here!). It's also a short walk away from the centre of Bordeaux. The space itself is beautiful and has all you need - private balcony, comfortable bed and a shared communal space. Brigitte was a great host and always quick to respond. I highly recommend this place to anyone needing a place to stay in Bordeaux.
