The Experience
The oldest part of this wine chateau dates from 1750 but has been added onto over the years, with the original house and chai now forming a spacious home with elegant, high-ceilinged bedrooms bathed in natural light. Kids will love having their own room with bunk beds.
This is a great place to escape from it all. Stream films or escape to the library with a board game or a book; play table football or darts in the games room. Outside, stroll among the the mature grounds and pear, peach and cherry trees; relax on the terraces with magnificent views – light the barbecue and take in the gorgeous sunset.
There’s a book in the house with local recommendations, and you’re a short drive from restaurants, shops and a fabulous Saturday market in Sainte Foy la Grande. Borrow a bicycle and cycle through the countryside, visit wineries in Bordeaux and Bergerac, canoe along the Dordogne River. St Emilion is 40 minutes, Bergerac 30 minutes.

Fabulous holiday, thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. There is so much space, and the outdoor pool, tennis courts and kitchen area were amazing and very well appointed. We even made our own pizza's in the pizza oven which was one of the many highlights. Can really recommend for families with children/teenagers - we hardly left the house. The only downside is that the week went too quickly, and none of us wanted to leave! Thanks for a wonderful week - hopefully we will be back.

La Gravouse is heaven. From the moment we arrived from the moment we left I enjoyed every aspect on this beautiful place. The house is a home from home and the grounds are phenomenal. Everything that you could wish for from a holiday. The swimming pool is the perfect size and temperature. The beds are dense and luxurious. The pizza oven, the barbecue, the eating areas outside. The tennis court is superb, ping-pong and table football were all thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the little laundry and ice machine. I loved the cook calm drawing room. The situation of the property, the quietude - MAGIC

Location
The neighbourhood
The house is reached via a lane that is off a main, but not busy road, with no neighbours nearby and views of vineyards and mature trees. You can walk to Chateau Picon to taste wine, and the bastide town of Ste Foy la Grande is only 10 minutes away, passing food shops on the way. Golf du Vigier, 20 minutes away, has a Michelin starred restaurant.
Local points of interest from Anna Lilley
- When the sun is shining there are a variety of garden games, including tennis, table tennis, croquet and boule (all equipment provided). For cozy winter evenings, there are four woodburning stoves and a range of board games.
- Enjoy pre-dinner drinks and al fresco dining under sparkly skies on the various terraces around the house. Depending on the season, the garden is brimming with fruit: pears, apples, peaches, cherries, blackberries, figs - help yourselves!
- Sainte Foy la Grande (7 minutes by car) comes alive on Saturday mornings, as locals and visitors alike come to enjoy the local produce at one of the best markets in France. There are several markets held through the week in the different local towns.
- The house is in the heart of the wine region, with many local chateaux. Take a stroll to Chateau Picon to taste wine from the neighbouring vines or spend the evening at their night market. Visit historic St Emilion, 40 minutes drive away.
- Hire kayaks in Sainte Foy la Grande and take a gentle paddle down the Dordorgne, stopping for pain au chocolate and a swim on the way.

Introducing
Anna Lilley
Anna and Charles are lawyers living and working in Abu Dhabi. They bought the house in 2017, redecorating it throughout to use as a holiday home. You'll be met by Victoria, who manages the property and lives ten minutes away - she leaves milk, coffee, juice, wine and bread in the kitchen for your arrival.
We all had an absolutely brilliant time: 8 adults with 6 children (3 - 8) in tow. They loved having the freedom to run around, form little sub groups, share the bunk room, eat the pastries that we brought back each morning, go pony riding play tennis, visit the Duras Chateau and enjoy the Saturday market, The house created a really lovely spaciousness and freedom for kids to just enjoy themselves together. It is very well equipped, stylish and comfortable, big baths, comfortable beds, etc. so everyone felt relaxed. Lots of fun things to do around as well. Highly recommended.
