Sleeps 14

Two lovely conversions – one, a former tobacco farmhouse; two, a boulangerie – brilliant for one big party or rented separately. They share six acres of grounds and a superb heated saltwater pool, with a metre-deep shallow end and a safety step all round; the whole set-up is perfect for families. Enter the Bread Oven, a big lofty open-plan living space, plus two bedrooms down some stairs. Enter the farmhouse to find a huge room divided by a staircase; to the left, the sitting room, to the right, the kitchen; two double bedrooms lie to the rear of the house, stunning old floor boards intact. Upstairs is child heaven: three twin rooms and a vast sitting room cum play space. Each house is comfortable, homely, inviting, with a wood-burning stove and rugs on heated floors, a super-duper kitchen and art on cream stone walls. Look forward to shady private terraces, pretty pergolas, sunbeds galore, and a welcome pack to ensure you don’t starve. For watery pursuits the Lot is a 15-minute drive, there are wonderful bastide towns to explore and, best of all, little Tombeboeuf two miles up the road – with shops, restaurant and nine-hole golf course!

We were lucky enough to stay for a month in La Forneau. It was just lovely- extremely comfortable, well equipped and with wifi and satellite tv. Garden and pool fabulous with Prue and Andrew working hard to keep the place well maintained. The owners ensure your holidy is made special by thinking of everything - bikes of every size in the 'cave', scooters, a buggy, a backpack for carrying a toddler, toys, sand pit, swings and wendy houses and places to sit in the garden. Walking in the area is fabulous with maps and extremely easy to follow guides in the gite. Superb for a walking holiday!

My husband and I spent a week in the gorgeous Bread Oven cottage with our three children. From the moment we arrived Prue and Andrew could not have been more welcoming and helpful. We were greeted with a generous welcome hamper and lots of useful information about things to do in the local area. Not only did our hosts make us feel relaxed, but so did the delightful Bread Oven. The luxurious rooms are of a great size and tastefully decorated. Staying at Gigan was a real treat for both my husband and I, as well as our children who made the most of the swimming pool and spacious grounds. 10/10!

I visited Domaine de Gigan in August with my husband, three children as well as Grandparents! where we stayed in the Farmhouse. What a wonderful home Prue and Andrew have! Everything was perfectly catered for from the welcome basket of treats on our arrival, information on trips in the surrounding areas, to endless activities for the children to do so we could relax by the pool and soak up the glorious sunshine! We had a wonderful and relaxing two weeks with Andrew and Prue on hand if we needed anything. I would highly recommend this holiday home, I know we will be visiting again very soon!

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Prue Murray

  • If golfing is your thing, Golfe de Barthe is a great 9 hole course, just 5 minutes drive from Gigan. English owned and beautifully tended, this is a great spot for everyone. Even if you are not into golf, why not drop in for a coffee or a 'light' lunch
  • We love to have children visiting us and try to provide everything to make your stay as easy as possible - from cots, high chairs and buggies to a climbing frame and play house - your little ones will be fully occupied - not forgetting bikes for all
  • 15 mins from the river Lot with river beach and boat hire during the summer months and wild swimming all year round!
  • Immerse yourself in the 'real' French life. Join the locals at the daily markets and enjoy truly seasonal food, while away an hour or two... In July & August fantastic producers markets make for a really special evening out!
  • Set in the heart of the rolling Lot & Garonne, with over 300 Randonee routes make Gigan your centre for a great walking holiday. For a more leisurely day take a trip to one of the many bastide villages and enjoy the best in local cuisine.
  • We are just a few miles south of the fabulous Bergerac wine area - Enjoy a day out wine tasting and touring the vineyards...For a more 'family' day out chateaux such as Biron, Monbazillac, Duras and Bridoire are all just a short drive away
