The Experience
A cosy cottage of honey stone and terracotta, one of a little cluster of gîtes surrounded by meadow and landscaped garden. Smiling Fabienne is your host. She and her husband (the main contractor) orchestrated the work and rebuilt with natural, eco materials. Espirit de Pierre is the oldest, attached to the former pigeonnier.
A feeling of serenity pervades; find freshly cut flowers on the kitchen table, feng shui design and views of the water garden. Bedrooms are neat, with comfy beds and valley views. There’s a family shower room, a practical kitchen, a splendid old fireplace and books and games for cooler evenings.
The perfect place to immerse yourself in rural Lot, peppered with pretty villages. There are hikes and cycling routes from the door – explore the ancient woodland of the Quercy Natural Park. On hot summer days, retreat with a book to private outdoor ‘salon’, or take a dip in the natural swimming pond as dragonflies whirr and swallows swoop overhead

What a treat to be able to stay in such a carefully and lovingly restored French country cottage, in one of the most stunning areas imaginable. So peaceful and authentic, so immersive in both history and nature, the sort of place Thomas Hardy would have written about on a French adventure! Perfect for a ramble and then a gentle bob around in the natural swimming pool before a night of stargazing.
