The Experience

An art-filled space with soaring beams is flanked by two luxurious bedrooms – a stylish base for friends to explore gastronomic Quercy, with an excellent kitchen that cooks will adore. You are welcomed with fresh bread, eggs, local cheese and a ‘gin-tonic’ to sip on the terrace – owners Frans and Kate live next door and are on hand if you need them.

Bedrooms are luxurious and dotted with arty ‘objets’ picked up on the owners’ travels. Both open onto the private garden and pool; take a morning dip and bask in the countryside quiet and soak up the long valley views.

Walk into sweet Floressas, with its château. The surrounding hills are strewn with charming villages – explore the cobbled lanes and arcades of Lauzerte, hunt for treasures in the brocantes of Puy-l’Évêque, lunch on the terrace at the Café de France or plunder the Sunday market at Montcuq – bring back the freshest of produce to cook together.

Les Champs Beaux is an exceptional property, if only to surround yourself with exquisite design and artwork. It certainly makes for an uplifting holiday – add to that the loveliness of Quercy, and how wonderful!

Location

The neighbourhood

Amongst medieval villages in gently rolling hills, the gîte sits alongside the owners' 18th-century mansion. Follow trails though sunflower fields to the nearby village of Floressas. Restaurant La Récreation in Prayssac, 12km, is perfect for a special occasion. The river Lot offers canoeing, river rafting and caving. Cahors is a 45-minute drive. The nearest train station is in Agen, 50km.

Local points of interest from Frans Van der Heijden

  • In the grounds of a beautiful 350-year-old manor in south west France, the guest cottage is set in thirty acres of private grounds with uninterrupted views. It's an oasis of tranquillity surrounded by rolling meadows.
  • Situated in the Département Lot / region Midi-Pyrénées / Query-Blanc, this is truly la France profonde, beautiful unspoilt countryside with far-reaching views, dotted with charming ancient villages.

Introducing

Frans Van der Heijden

A jaw-dropping conversion by owners Frans, a renowned photographer, and Kate, an interior designer. Their 18th-century manor house has been a peaceful retreat for their family for almost three decades, and they have stamped the same artistic panache on the gîte. Once the stable block, it's now filled with treasures from their travels around the world.
