The Experience
The Manoir oozes grandeur with its sweeping limestone staircase, a grand piano in the vast dining room and a fire roaring in the hearth on cold days. This valley was once the playground of the French nobility, the countryside teeming with eagle owls, wild boar and hare. You are a world away from the bustle of modern life.
Rooms are beautifully decorated, all have excellent bathrooms, and each is filled with period pieces and pleasing details. Choose the double aspect LaoTse room in the attic for wraparound views, or Turenne with its hand painted ceiling and doors leading straight into the garden.
Julien and Aurélia grew up in Lot and look after you splendidly, arranging visits and booking restaurants; Julien also cooks delightful dinners. Breakfast on fromage blanc, seasonal fruit and fresh pastries under the shade of the ancient yew. There are boardgames and books, the sauna and spring water pool, and the pretty village to explore.

Location
The neighbourhood
The Manoir sits in sheltered gardens at the centre of the pretty village of Autoire; it's a two-minute stroll to the local restaurant. Take a picnic to the waterfall, a 45-minute hike, and soak up views of the Dordogne valley. Browse the markets and shops at Saint-Céré, 7km away, or visit the Château de Montal, 5km, a Renaissance masterpiece. The nearest train station is Gramat, 15km.
Local points of interest from Aurélia & Julien Lassaque Bethencourt
- We have a painted ceiling from the early XVIIth Century, offered by the Vicomte de Turenne, who was used to spend nights at the Manoir with his lovers... This peace of art, protected by the Historical Mouments, is the work of Italian artists.
- Two yews, 400 years old, live in ours gardens. They host birds and families of squirrels. The Manoir boasts 5 hanging gardens, giving it the feel of a small Babylon and we have our own natural spring that feeds our swimming pool and Nordic bath.
- From our Sauna, with its large bay-window, you can admire the sunrise and sunset on the cliffs of Autoire. In our gardens you can sample our gourmet platters of seafood, charcuterie, cheese or vegetarian while discovering our generous selection of wines.
- Nearby are the Gouffre de Padirac, Rocamadour, and four other "Plus Beaux Villages de France"; the Castels of Montal, Castelnau-Bretenoux and Assier; golf (5km), hot-air ballooning (20km), canoeing on the River Dordogne (10km); and numerous restaurants...
- Autoire is nestled in a natural cirque, at the heart of which is a majestic waterfall. The site is classified as a sensitive natural park. Our cliffs are home to many birds, including protected species such as the Great Horned Owl.
- Aurélia is a poet and screenwriter. Translated into several languages, she has travelled the world. We organise exhibitions, concerts and literary evenings at the Manoir throughout the year.

Introducing
Aurélia & Julien Lassaque Bethencourt
Aurélia and Julien met in high school and have been together ever since. When lockdowns put a stop to Julien's travelling for work they realised they needed a change of lifestyle. First they opened a restaurant, but when they discovered Autoire it was love at first sight. They dote on their guests – Julien indulges his passion for cooking, and linguist Aurélia organises cultural events at the Manoir.
The small town is exceptionally beautiful, with wonderful hikes to surprising destinations; the waterfall just out of town and the ruined English castle up by the edge of the cliffs being just two examples. The manor house itself is such a delight with beautiful rooms, comfy beds, a sauna, pool and hot tub. But the best part of the visit is the welcome from the hosts Aurélia and Julien. They have renovated the manor and created this hostel with a passion for the history of the building and a love for welcoming guests into their space. We will certainly be returning.
