The Experience

This farmhouse, in a quaint corner of Haute-Normandie, is surrounded by a green paradise of orchards and summer and winter vegetable patches. Organic produce and simple living are the buzzwords in the Languignons’ Norman bolthole, and you breakfast on wholemeal bread and crusty baguette, jams and fruit – all homemade or grown, and accompanied by local honey, farm yogurt and heart-shaped Neufchâtel cheese.

Relax in the grassy gardens, cross over the stream and duck under the long tendrils of the white willow and hazel to explore the footpaths at the end of the garden.

Three airy bedrooms overlook a central courtyard – larger families can take over the whole place, but it’s private enough for a romantic long weekend of gentle pedalling through the villages of the thickly forested valley.

We had an absolutely delightful stay at La Lévrière and would have loved to stay longer. The setting is exquisite - a beautiful and peaceful garden - and our hosts Margaux and David were charming and welcoming. The room was comfortable while retaining its period charm. We had a delicious evening meal and breakfast - Margaux is a brillient cook - and enjoyed meeting the other guests in the table d'hôte format. 100% recommended.

Alison, Bristol

After a return visit our impressions remain the same, this is a delightful place to relax for a few days. The room was comfortable, spotlessly clean and cool considering the temperature outside. Breakfast was delicious as usual with a varied selection of homemade and locally-sourced produce. The extensive garden is at the guests' disposal with plenty of room for children and even the chance to swim in the little river if you are brave enough!

Kathleen and Alan, Aberdeen

We absolutely loved staying at la Lévrière. The rooms were tasteful and clean, the breakfasts delicious with home made jams and breads and local honey and cheeses. The hosts were warm and relaxed and nothing was too much trouble. And we loved being able to use the little kitchenette and sitting room for evening supper when we didn’t want to go out for dinner. We highly recommend this home in its stunning country location.

Lindsay & Mark, Ealing

Having stayed here several times with the previous owners, we were hoping for a smooth transition. We had nothing to worry about. Margaux and David were excellent hosts and made us feel extremely welcome. The room was slightly changed but just as pleasant and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely and always served with a cheery greeting and smile. We will definitely return.

The neighbourhood

Traffic noise is at a minimum in St-Denis-Le-Ferment: aside from the rumble of a passing tractor, your soundtrack is likely to be the babbling of the brook at the bottom of the garden, or the whinny of a horse. La Lévrière is set on a quiet road just outside the centre of the village, with walking trails spooling out from the doorstep across bordering pastures and dense woodland.

Local points of interest from Monsieur & Madame Languignon

  • Giverny, Lyons la Forêt, Gerberoy, Château Gaillard, The abbey of Saint Germer de Fly... All these beautiful places are 20-30 minutes from our guesthouse. Ideally situated to relax and recharge batteries after a good day of sight seeing.
  • Breath surrounded by our forest garden of more than 2 acres. Because we are restoring biodiversity in this piece of land, you will likely see original butterflies, dragonflies, wild ducks and moorhen, birds etc… Don’t forget your binoculars.
  • The to-be smallholding already provides organic fruits, vegetables and eggs, that you can enjoy for breakfast in the right season. We'll be happy to make you discover mainly local heirloom fruits and vegetables varieties in addition to medicinal plants.
  • Hikers will love the path of The Reine Blanche, bordering our property. 22 km, across the countryside, following the Lévrière river, going through several small villages. We are also a step on the road of The avenue Verte London-Paris, bikers are welcome !
  • Our greatest wish is to live following the rythm of the Nature and respect the earth with as much gratitude as we can. Thus, we propose and use locally produced and/or eco-friendly products.
  • A gastronomic restaurant featured in the french gastronomic guides le Bottin Gourmand and le Guide Michelin is 10 minutes from our guesthouse. A great place to enjoy a romantic dinner or to discover typical Norman dishes.

Monsieur & Madame Languignon

Monsieur & Madame Languignon run La Lévrière and live in one of the on-site cottages, so they’re on hand to dole out advice on the gastronomy of Bazincourt or the footpaths of Lyons la Forêt. The green-fingered couple are proud advocates of organic cuisine and have great plans for their fruit orchards and vegetable gardens – absolutely everything organic, of course.
