The Experience
This one-time residence of French artist Jean Cocteau has dreamy views over Villefranche-sur-Mer bay and Cap Ferrat. It’s filled with interesting art, original fittings and has a cool bohemian feel. Enjoy aperitifs in the garden, gather for meals out on the terrace, beside the pool or in the dining room – the kitchen is well kitted out and easy to use. Big bedrooms, two inside, one out, have sweeping sea views.
You’re in an enviable spot on the top floor of the tallest villa around, it’s a ten minute walk to the sea, and another ten minutes to shops, restaurants and bars before you get to the charming old town of Villefranche. This part of the Côte d’Azur still attracts artists, writers and creatives. Walk to Saint-Pierre chapel, decorated inside and out by Cocteau.
Visit iconic Nice and Monaco, both 20 mins, discover gorgeous beaches, belle époque villas, spectacular hilltop villages and mountain scenery. You won’t want to leave.

WOW! What a dream — Villa Calme definitely lives up to its name. The villa felt completely luxurious and elegant, yet also comfy and just like home all at the same time. From enjoying the zero gravity pool and outdoor areas, to preparing meals in the beautiful kitchen, to having coffee in the living room overlooking the sea, it felt like such a piece of heaven. The fresh flowers upon entry were a nice touch! The villa was close to bus route to take into Nice and close to restaurants down the street or down the steps by the water. We will definitely be back again!

We had a wonderful vacation at Villa Calme. The villa has alot of vintage charm and history, and plenty of space both inside and out to enjoy the spectacular views of the Mediterranean. The pool and surrounding deck are quite spacious and well kept. Shops and bus lines are conveniently located within walking distance, no need for a car. Both the host and owner were very accommodating and responsive to any inquiries we had.

A very comfortable and characterful apartment with a stunning view across the bay towards Cap Ferrat. There are shops and efficient transport links close by which facilitates exploring the Côte d’Azur without a car. At the end of the day it was always a joy to return to Villa Le Calme to enjoy sitting in the very pretty garden area by the pool. All in all a delight to spend our holiday at the villa.

Location
The neighbourhood
Take stone steps down the steep hillside to the closest small, pebbly beach, Plage de la Darse, it's good for an evening dip or a snorkel. Further on you arrive in Villefranche, a picturesque village above an idyllic harbour overlooking the Cap Ferrat peninsula. The 14th-century old town, with its winding streets is a delight to amble around after a long, lazy lunch. Tour the coast and its sights.
Local points of interest from Howard Harrison
- The unique Chapel St Pierre down by the port of Villefranche is one of the most remarkable treasures left by Jean Cocteau who once resided at Villa le Calme.
- Villefranche's charming village market takes place every Wednesday and Saturday morning in the park along the road.
- Below the house is the Port de la Darse, one of the oldest working boatyards on the Riviera. It is a delight to take a coffee at Le Baleine Joyeuse and watch the boats go by.
- The remarkable Villa Rothschild Ephrussi stands on the skyline of St Jean Cap Ferrat across the Rade de Villefranche from the house. The gardens are one of the wonders of the Cote d'Azur and well worth a visit.
- The neighbouring village of Beaulieu sur Mer has a market most mornings and an idyllic square where it is a delight to take a coffee and watch the world go by.
- Above the house is the National Park of Mont Boron. At the far end the Fort de Mont Alban has amazing views of the coast from Villefranche to Italy.

Introducing
Howard Harrison
Owner Howard is a theatre designer who lives in England. He's owned the villa for 20 years and is a regular visitor which gives the place it's homely charm. You're met by a local Englishwoman, Tamsin, who shows you around and is on hand if you need her - she's charming, welcoming and knowledgable about the house and area.
We spent a lovely fortnight at Villa le Calme, which comfortably accommodated our group of five. The villa has incredible character and the views across the bay are spectacular. We always enjoyed making good use of the fantastic pool and surrounding area. Location is excellent with the centre of Villefranche a short walk away and frequent buses to Nice and Beaulieu-sur-Mer. We were well looked after by Richard who was incredibly helpful and a fountain of local knowledge.
