The Experience

This lovely apartment for two is within the owners’ house but has its own private access. Inside, seaside simplicity and style are the keywords, all softly done in natural materials, duck-egg and taupe fabrics, driftwood lamps and fish-shaped hooks – the Lubéron hills on your doorstep are stunning. You have your own private terrace: you are virtually sitting in that fabulous landscape beneath the dappled sun. The kitchen/living room is well-equipped and perfect for two, the high-quality bedding is new, your hosts delightful. Guylaine is an artist and Franck is a business consultant, harvesting his own olives, extracting essential oil from his lavender plants and producing honey from his beehives. You might see other guests from the apartment for two upstairs, or the one for four on the other side of the house but as this is a place for adults, it’s wonderfully tranquil. You could just laze the days away by the shared lavender-lined pool, go wine-tasting at local vineyards, explore famous villages such as Gordes, Rousillon, Bonnieux, Loumarin and lovely, lively Aix en Provence with its cathedral, galleries and bookshops, less than 30km away. The pretty seaside town of Cassis and its celebrated limestone calanques are only an hour’s drive.

Reviews

We had an absolutely brilliant stay here in this idyllic countryside apartment. Guylaine and Franck ( with Masai and others) are marvellous hosts and welcome you into their home like old friends. Lots to love, nothing to dislike, merci beaucoup.

Peter and Nicola, Newcastle

La Bastide des Amandiers is the perfect place for a romantic holiday or honeymoon. The house is beautiful and spotless, and the owners Guylaine and Franck could not have been better hosts, providing us with fantastic recommendations for restaurants and towns to visit. The private terraces ensure guests have privacy, but also a great sense of space, looking out across the beautiful garden and orchard and out to the mountains beyond. A wonderful romantic getaway!

Terry, London

This is our second stay with Guylaine and Franck but our first time in this apartment, which is beautifully furnished and very well equipped. We also had exclusive use of an outdoor kitchen area which is great for eating out. The grounds are beautiful with lavender, olive and fruit trees and the view from the bedroom window is wonderful. Immediately accessible from the house is an extensive network of paths through pine forest carpeted with wild Rosemary and Thyme with amazing views towards Marseille and Ventoux. Guylaine and Franck are very charming, kind and generous hosts. Fabulous.

Kevin, Edinburgh

La Bastide des Amandiers is exceptional. Quiet, beautiful, pristine with lovely hosts. The apartment is perfect for two. And then there is the wonderful garden and swimming pool. We had a delightful holiday.

Neil, Norwich

We had a week's stay at this delightful gite. The location is very peaceful in picturesque surroundings, yet within easy reach of some enchanting villages and great restaurants! The owners Guylaine & Franck made us most welcome and have produced a comprehensive guide for the local area. The gite has been beautifully decorated with flair and style and is well equipped. We would not hesitate to recommend this gite confident in the knowledge that those renting it will have a most enjoyable stay.

Local points of interest from Guylaine et Franck Barthelemy

  • Aix-en-Provence is pedestrian friendly and full of squares, fountains and markets. You can wander, drink a glass of Rosé, enjoy the Provençal air, have a more cultural approach with the Museum Granet, Cézanne workshop, or the Cathedral “Saint-Sauveur”.
  • Avignon, charming fortified city, offers old alleys and the Cité des Papes. Enjoy the amazing view of the Avignon famous bridge. L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a little “Provencal Venice”, where you can find incredible antiques in the Sunday market.
  • Charming villages of Lubéron. I will share good addresses; restaurants, ice-cream maker, vineyards, art galleries etc, and the best walks around. Bikes are available for those who wants to enjoy a lovely ride just before the sunset.. and the aperitif!
  • Alpilles, a heaven on earth surrounded by olive trees and vineyards. You will find Saint Rémy’s village where Van Gogh painted famous canvas, as well as the Cathédrale d’Images aux Baux de Provence!
  • If you have the courage to go bit further, you can visit La Camargue and its white horses(1h), Cassis and les Calanques (1h), Arles, its Arenas and le Pont du Gard (1h) or even the splendid Verdon Gorges (1h30).
  • If you prefer a "Farniente day", you can simply pick up your baguette and croissants at Rognes, our charming little village, sit at one of the café terrace or come back and enjoy the swimming pool! Massage treatments also available on request.
