The Experience

Cypress trees proudly line the driveway to a peaceful old farmhouse with sublime mountain views. Your tiny room with an old stone façade and grey shutters is in the garden and blissfully rustic – especially  in summer. Walk straight in to an open-plan bedroom/living/kitchen area with all you need for holiday cooking, or you can cook on the barbecue. This is not a sleek, state-of-the-art place, just simple and very good value.

You have your own private-feeling terrace with trees and shrubs dividing you from the main house, but this is a friendly place and you’re encouraged to use the garden with its smooth lawn, fruit trees and dining corner with a table for al fresco meals on balmy evenings. You can also sizzle off in a small basin-style pool if it gets too hot.

A stroll along the canal leads to fabulous old Saint-Rémy with its restaurants, world-renowned chocolaterie and Wednesday market. Moments away is Avignon; the castle ruin at Les Baux is just over the hill.

Reviews

A bijou room set in large, beautifully laid out garden with views of the nearby Les Alpilles hills. The accommodation may be tiny but the surroundings are not. You have the shared use of the large BBQ beside a covered outside eating area, and a refreshing 'basin', as well as your own private area outside your studio. Your host Jordane is a delight. AND you can walk to the centre of St Remy.

We had a lovely stay in this small but well-appointed studio set within beautifully tended gardens. So nice to eat meals outside in the shade and cool off in the plunge pool. Jordane and family are excellent hosts. They advised about local events and kindly took us to watch a local bullfight. A perfect location just outside St Remy. We enjoyed the walk along the canal to restaurants/shops and also to the Van Gogh museum in the monastery on the outskirts of the town. In the other direction we could access some nice short hikes by a lake in the Alpilles. We do hope to return one day!

Sandra, Ornex, France

We could not have felt more welcomed by owners Jordane & Raphael. We enjoyed spending a week at La Cabonon. It was perfect, we loved the setting, beautiful grounds so relaxing and the plunge pool was enjoyable after a hot day of cycling or sightseeing. We were completely taken by the level of care that went into the renovation. We would certainly stay again.

Jennifer, Aldershot

A lovely retreat just outside Arles. We enjoyed walking along the canal into the town. There's plenty to do and see in the area. Les Carrieres de Lumiaire at le Baux de Provence are spectacular.

Ruth

We have recommended family and friends to come and stay at this perfect, peaceful idyll. From the moment we arrived were made to feel like old friends. Jordane, Raphael, Charles and Etan are warm and inclusive. They took us into to beautiful St Remy to a festival of the land. We enjoyed meeting their wonderful friends, appreciating their local knowledge of food, wine and the best places to visit. The studio was so comfortable, cool yet cosy. I have fallen in love with the Marsot's and St Remy.

Location

The neighbourhood

The centre of Saint-Rémy is within walking distance for a superb Wednesday market, lots of restaurants and shops, the train station and Joël Durand's famous artisan chocolate shop. It's a chic little town, very popular with artists, and with charming boulevards lined with plane trees, narrow streets and pretty cafés. The large central square is always bustling with people, especially on market day.

Local points of interest from Jordane Marsot

  • Throughout the year St Remy has fetes and festivals. There is also the museum of Van Gogh.
  • Autumn is a magical time in our region ..... go to find mushrooms, taste new wines, walk along scenic paths, cycle through the vineyards.
  • St Remy has a famous weekly market on Wednesdays. This market is one of the best in Provence.
  • The transhumance is an annual event in St Remy when vast herds of sheep and goats move from pastures to the hills: This event coincides with Pentecote.
  • St Remy is a haven of boutiques and interesting restaurants; Including the famous chocolate shop Joel Durand.
