The Yorkes have lavished quantities of care on their big ‘neo-Provençal’ house and terraced garden. It’s a seductive, tranquil hideaway in a cocoon of luxuriant vegetation, like a balcony hanging over the glorious scenery. Inside there is space and a sense of calm. Artist Morag has a flair for colour and impeccable, unpretentious taste: gold, turquoise, blue, brick-red and white are married with Indian cottons, local antiques, good kilims and personal mementoes – the house of a family you would like to know better. Her enchanting and colourful paintings decorate the walls, the lime-green sofa before the open fireplace is almost edible, there are all the books on Provence you may need. Plus fine big bedrooms, pretty Salernes-tiled bathrooms, a beautifully renovated Provençal kitchen, with all mod-cons, to prepare for the stupendously gleaming antique refectory table. Then choose the lovely pool area or a secret corner in the luscious garden, or go for water sports of every description on Lac de Saint Cassien, golf at Terre Blanche, or walking in the hills behind Callian.
