Roaring Water Bay

Wonderful place, wonderful people.

Four things not apparent from the Sawday’s entry 1) the situation of the cottage at Roaring Water Bay is so restful - it just has a nice feel, tucked away with a full of flowers sunny garden 2) The photos of the interior do not do it justice - the living area / kitchen and master bedroom are really lovely to be in 3) Johnny is a very good host, managing to be there enough to welcome (and continue to make you feel welcome) suggest and help while giving guests space 4) baby friendly! - a travel cot will fit in the second bedroom, it’s pretty much one level and they’ll love it (ours did)!

We stayed here 6th July to 13th July 2019. A wonderful stay: owner Johnny Byrne lives in the farmhouse next door, is a great host – extremely welcoming. We enjoyed a total sense of seclusion, and privacy; almost like a spiritual retreat! Two or three acres of wild flowers, trees, and shrubs: magical, time came to a standstill an opportunity to refresh, renew and imbibe the best County Cork nature offers. Bees buzzing, birds warbling, pair of blackbirds cracking open freshly foraged snails, plus beautiful cloud formation above – sun shone brilliantly throughout our stay! Terry & Christine

My sentiment on arrival , ‘It’s everything I wanted it to be!’ And the journey it takes through the hills is part of the experience. From the moment we arrived, Johnny made us feel so immensely welcome and delighted in the arrival of our 3 young children, encouraging immediate & imaginative play in the beautiful naturalistic gardens adjoining the pink cottage as we fondly call it. I loved the curiosities everywhere and felt a world away from the everyday beat of the drum. Our children, left to their own devices; reading and drawing - we all slept loads! A firm holiday favourite going forward.

We loved our stay at the Pink Cottage - I t’s a gem of a place. Beautiful both inside and out. The cottage has loads of character, enhanced by all the books and paintings. It is cosy but the high ceilings give a sense of space. There are woods and gardens to sit in or wonder about. As a host Johnny was friendly and hospitable yet unobtrusive. There are hill walks from the house and the little lanes are perfect for cycling. Ballydehob,Baltimore, Schull , Ahakista and Clonakilty, and all of South West Cork are nearby. This is a very special corner of a very special area.
