The Experience

Once you pass through the gates you’re greeted by the beautiful far-reaching views toward Salerno; the sunsets are divine. The farmhouse overlooks nine hectares of nut, fruit and olive trees and vines. It’s wonderful being high and cool and still within easy reach of the Amalfi coast, but for children it’s the farm animals who steal the show; everyone loves Serafina the donkey who has her very own call for Monica.

Positioned on various levels, each of the good-sized and individually decorated Provençal style rooms, some sporting modern frescoes, keeps its original tiles. To the rear of the house is a new apartment with its own entrance. Exuberant Monica offers cookery classes using regional ingredients, and dinner on the terrace (or in the restaurant) is delicious: local mozzarella, just-picked tomatoes, chicken cooked to grandmother’s recipe, and always, a dessert extravaganza.

Be sure to visit the archaeological sites of Pompeii and Paestum.

Reviews

The hospitality of Monica and her team is exceptional in a garden oasis on the edge of the village if Gaiano. The location is excellent; easy access to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Paestum and the Amalfi coast . The food is delicious and abundant with traditional dishes in the evenings and fresh fruit, eggs and cake for breakfast.

At first it seemed that we were staying in the middle of the town. But then through the gates and this wonderful Agriturismo unfolded. We arrived as Sunday lunch was winding down at about 5.00 pm. A useful indicator of the quality of the meals to come. Monica and her enthusiastic team create a warm and welcoming ambiance. The breakfasts were good, but the dinners were superb. The cook decides the menu and you just sit back and enjoy, with a bottle of wine from the region. The memory of the dessert of organic hazelnuts from the farm will stay for ever.

Wonderful hospitality and particularly exceptional food - each day we looked forward to our abundant dinner by the fire which was always delicious! Monica and staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Perfect place to stay. Mountain feel but close to Salerno and Amalfi coast. Amazing food (one of the best lasagne we have ever tasted) and a fabulous welcome. Our kids (5, 7 and 8) loved it too - especially the animals and the pool. Thank you Gianni and Monica!

This place is a great option for couples and families. So relaxing with very clean rooms and pool. the staff is friendly and welcoming. Eat the dinner here. The food is amazing and every day there's a new dish. It's exciting to get surprised what will come next and I was never disappointed. Highly recommended this place.

For me, the 3 most important things to look for when finding somewhere to stay on holiday are location, food and people. This Agriturismo gets 5 stars for all 3. But it was the people (including the other guests) who made it really special for us. Everyone was so welcoming, friendly and helpful and so keen to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. The sort of informal atmosphere created is very intimate and difficult to achieve, certainly impossible for large hotels. Everything was just as we had hoped it would be (although the weather could have been a bit warmer!)

Chris, Bristol

A wonderful stay, hosted by Gianni, Monica and their loyal team (and the adorable Baba the dog!) We enjoyed the beautiful pool and gardens, delicious food from the farm and surrounding area, including a memorable kiwi jam - delicious! The stunning views from our room over Salento, especially at sunset won't be forgotten. Gianni recommended a fantastic boat trip along the Amalfi - such great value and a special and calm way to see the whole of the coast. Thanks you, Sally & Kate

We enjoyed staying at Monica and Gianni's place. The views are incredible, particularly in the evening. The dinners were lovely, always with fresh locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast is filling and the Agriturismo itself is rustic but welcoming. Campania is amazing - Gianni had a number of recommendations for us which really added to our holiday: an Amalfi coast cruise, Paestum, Herculaneum... You do need a car and sat nav - there's no other way to get about otherwise.

Iain, Darlington

Monica and Gianni were great hosts and the location, ambiance and food were excellent would happily recommend. You do need a car and a sat nav but fantastic for exploring the Amalfi coast and many historic sights.

This is one of those 'special' places. Gianni and Monica were charming and helpful, and the building and grounds delightful. The pool was especially welcome after a day in the sun! The meals were a delight, and it was clear that they took great pride in their local dishes. We would gladly return here should we pass this way again.

merveilleux endroit, Gianni et Monica font tout pour rendre votre séjour agréable. Le séjour a été un pur moment de chaleur et d'amitié, nous en conserverons un magnifique souvenir.

The delights of true Italian Hospitality - this establishment is simply wonderful. From the clean and comfortable room with a super view out over the estates hazelnut groves, to the absolutely superb food. The highlight of our two night stay were our hosts, Monica and Gianni. They welcomed us more as guest's in their own home rather than simply owners of their business. One morning Gianni brought us back espresso’s from the village. A mark of a fantastic hospitality establishment, showing such regard for their guests. We have already recommended a stay here to friends. Fantastic!

Location

The neighbourhood

It’s a 15 minute drive to the Amalfi coast, though it’s best viewed by boat! Boats leave from Salerno or Monica can even arrange a sailing boat charter. Combine a trip to the Greek temples of Paestum with a visit to buffalo farm Tenuta Vannulo to learn about the mozzarella making process. Pompeii and Herculaneum (25-minute drive) are the must-see archaeological sites – if it’s summer plan your trip to avoid the heat of the day.

Local points of interest from Monica Negri

  • From the ancient Romans Campania, in particular the airs of Naples and Salerno , was called "land felix " because it is incredibly rich in natural products of excellence (mozzarella, tomatoes, olive oil) and for the extraordinary beauty of the amalfi coast

Introducing

Monica Negri

Monica’s grandfather, the Barone Antonio, was a much-loved mayor and the piazza named in his honour is a fine place for an evening passeggiata among the locals. The farm has been in the family for 150 years.
