The villa is perched above the beautiful town of Moneglia and is a beautifully run, family owned hotel. The hosts make any stay a joy; Orietta and Francesca pour themselves into their business. Orietta is a mine of information about Ligurian art and history, sings in the local choir and loves meeting people who share her interest in music. Rooms are light and airy if a little retro, but there are plans to update the décor. Chefs Vladimiro and Loris will prepare Ligurian dishes, some vegetarian, with the freshest organic produce, and do fabulous breakfasts; Edy is a cake-making genius. Orietta is a keen walker who may take guests out for real hikes – though you can always catch a boat to Portofino and explore the Cinque Terre by sea. You are fairly close to the railway here (a significant part of the landscape, threading the Cinque Terre villages together) but you’d never know, and now there’s a lift up to the hotel from the street – handy! Lots of treats to come back to: a fitness room, sauna, a lovely pool. The beach is a ten-minute walk.
