The Experience

Wind your way up through endless olive groves to this organic working estate. Through the gate… to find child-free seclusion and spa-like calm. Manicured lawns give way to a fine terrace, and breathtaking bougainvillea-framed views over village-studded hills to the glinting sea (even better appreciated from the stunning infinity pool!). Rooms, all with their own private outdoor space, are savvy and sophisticated yet simple: open brickwork, marble basins, cream iron beds and sofas, bare wooden floors, beautiful country antiques. Relaxation is what San Damian is about. Bring a book or browse the library, slip into the pool, feel time go slow-mo to the serenade of the cicadas. Local osteria dining tips are readily provided by serene hosts Pamela and Roberto; breakfast – an abundant buffet of homemade breads and cakes, fresh fruit, cheeses and cured meats served under portico’d arches – should under no circumstances be slept through. Should you stray from the garden and grounds, the surrounding hills promise superb hiking – and the lavish Ligurian coast is the shortest drive.

Reviews

It's a serene and calm place and an ideal base for walks or biking in the Ligurian countryside. Imperia has a wonderful old town and there are small, hillside villages scattered around within a short drive but the nicest thing is just the simple, unpretentious ambiance of the estate which has two pools, lots of places to sit and read with views of the coastline from a far-off hill.
