The Experience

The villa (in the Nordic chalet style) was built in 1892. It sits in quiet Brunate, a top leisure spot for wealthy families from Milan and the Po valley at the turn of the 20th century. You are looked after beautifully with delicious breakfasts served indoors or out: flaky Italian pastries, breads and jams, mountain cheeses and yogurts, freshly squeezed juices.

Take a turn around the grounds and marvel: all-round interest in well-tended beds, smooth lawns, a wildflower meadow, woodland walk, fecund vegetable beds – an absolute delight for garden lovers. Bedrooms are pure joy with luxurious linens and fabrics, bathrooms are sparkling.

Float in the glorious pool (heated in winter) or wedge yourself firmly on a lounger, find a book from the well-stocked library and settle in the light-filled sitting room, take a sauna, hire an e-bike, order a picnic, breathe the freshest mountain air, head to Milan for shopping. All is possible.

We think you'll love

  • Staying in such a beautiful, tranquil spot, being looked after so unobtrusively, enjoying the wonderful views and fresh air
  • Doing very little – eating and sleeping well, wandering the gardens, cooling off in the pool, finding time to read
  • Enjoying yoga, a cookery class, wine tasting or an aperitivo without leaving the estate – there's even a gym

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in a little hamlet with a super restaurant within a few minutes' walk, La Polenteria, specialising in local mountain food. Cycling and walking from the estate are superb, Como is a 20 to 30-minute drive for designer shopping (particularly silk) and a superb weekly food and antique market. From here you can take boat trips on the lake, or a sea plane – quite an experience.

Local points of interest from Kasper Lilholm

  • The historic Como-Brunate funicular, connecting the lakefront to the village in just a few minutes with breathtaking views throughout the ride.
  • Scenic woodland walks and panoramic trails starting directly from the villa, leading to hidden viewpoints, cafés and the famous Faro Voltiano lighthouse.
  • Long breakfasts in the garden, surrounded by greenery, birdsong and the relaxed rhythm of Italian life.
  • The peaceful silence and fresh mountain air, offering a rare sense of calm while still being close to Como and Milan.
  • Lake Como itself, only a short drive away - perfect for private boat tours, lakeside aperitivi, charming villages and unforgettable sunsets,
  • The atmosphere of old-world villas and Liberty-style architecture that make Brunate feel elegant, romantic and untouched by time.

Introducing

Kasper Lilholm

The villa has been developed quite exceptionally from what was already a B&B, attracting some very high-profile guests and delighting everybody who comes. The setting is superb, Sig. Massimo lives next door so is always available to help you plan trips, and the rest of the small staff look after you very well indeed.
