The Experience

On a breezy hill is a house of charm, comfort and whitewashed simplicity, with views down the valley to the sea. It’s the inviting summer home of Antonio and Deb who, in June, up sticks from Genoa and head for this quiet eyrie. Designed by Antonio, built by his father, the house stands in 11 rugged hectares, in a landscape that has barely changed with Sardinia’s arrival on ‘the map’. Beyond is a resort (out of sight); below is a bay with white sands and turquoise waters – bustling at one end, quiet at the other. Deb’s effortless stylishness is inspired from travels to Greece, Morocco, France and Spain. Outside are cacti in pots and pristine wicker loungers, inside are cool white walls, polished concrete floors, natural fabrics, chic mosaics, billowing mosquito nets and beautiful boughs of driftwood (they make great clothes rails). Bedrooms are downstairs, off the veranda; leave the doors open, catch a glimpse of the sea. Breakfast is at the big table, a splash of family produce: breads, fruits, jams, cheeses. Kayak to uninhabited islands, take the ferry to Corsica, snorkel, surf, watch the sun go down at Capo Testa.

You could not hope to meet two nicer people than Deb and Antonio who made us feel so much at home during our 10 day stay at Tancamelis. They gave us helpful suggestions regarding places to visit and booked tables for us for dinner every evening in local restaurants. Sardinian food and wine are mouth-wateringly delicious. The accommodation is charming, comfortable, stylish and of a high standard throughout. We spent most days on the beach, swimming and soaking up the sun ….and occasionally sheltering from the wind! It was a truly relaxing holiday which we will look back on with fond memories.

We loved Tancamelis! The most beautiful rooms with glorious views, and very kind and welcoming hosts. We enjoyed early morning ambles to the nearby beach, incredible breakfast and with great help from Deb & Antonio had a fabulous few days discovering this part of beautiful Sardinia. Highly recommended.

What a special place this is! A beautiful peaceful haven with incredible views but made extra special by our warm and welcoming hosts Deb and Antonio. Deb's superb recommendations on where to eat and visit really made our stay perfect. Wonderful breakfasts, with home produce, delicious home bakes and the best coffee! Lovely, creative people, who have designed and built a beautiful home in the hills and share it so generously. I'm listening to Deb's Spotify playlist as I write this to keep the magic going... do visit if you are lucky enough to get a room.

We cannot fault this little haven that Deb and Antonio have created on this special island. The beautifully prepared and presented delicious breakfasts from their family’s local produce to the rooms and gardens, their style and attention to detail is very evident throughout. They were both charming and informative hosts, it was a treat to stay here.

This is a special place to stay, very comfortable with pretty private garden areas. Deb and Antonio are delightful hosts where nothing was too much trouble without being obtrusive. Fabulously prepared breakfasts with delicious home produce and presented with great style. Their care and attention to detail certainly pays off. We loved it!!

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Deb & Antonio Manca

  • Marmorata beach is only 600 meters away from Tancamelis, a nice 10-minute walk. Here you can relax, enjoy the sea and bask in the sunlight and for sport lovers, there are different water sports to choose from.
  • 4 km from Tancamelis is Santa Teresa Gallura with its excellent restaurants and ice cream shops. During the evening, especially in high season, the main square and the neighbouring streets come to life with shows and small markets.
  • Only 7 km away from Capotesta, famous for its beaches, coves and beautiful sunsets. Enjoy beautiful walks around the lighthouse and amongst huge granite rocks smoothened by the wind into the most unusual shapes.
  • During the summer season many events and attractions take place in the area as the Gallura Baskers, the street artist festival where artists from all over the world come to perform during the month of July in Gallura’s city centre.
  • Sometimes during summer at dawn or sunset or in the evening , some famous artists play in concerts held in the squares, on the beaches and amongst the granites of Capotesta.
  • From Santa Teresa’s harbour you can organise boat or sailing trips or hire a rubber boat to visit the neighbouring islands of Cavallo, Lavezzi and the famous archipelagos of Maddalena.
