The Experience
A traditional Sicilian fortified estate or ‘baglio’ with two courtyards, one which frames views of the sea, and the other the old grape scales – history is all around you and the peace is deep. Bedrooms are in the guesthouse – two in the old wine cellar, and the others arranged around the library/sitting room. All are a good size and exude the charm of an aristocratic farmhouse, with every piece of furniture either a family heirloom, or a tasteful re-design.
Breakfast includes a fresh cake of the day, along with warm croissants, fennel-seed bread, homemade marmalade, yogurts, fruits and nuts. Dinner is available if you ask: traditional Sicilian home cooking – a rare find. Head to the pool for a refreshing dip among a chorus of song birds, borrow bikes and set off through the vineyards spotting herons, storks and wildfowl. The beach is just a fifteen-minute pedal.
Take long walks on Isola Lunga, a unique island you can reach by wading.

Location
The neighbourhood
The isolation among the vineyards and the birds, with the sea in sight is only relative. The gorgeous village of Sambuca is just a 45-minute drive - famous for its ancient San Teodoro monastery and also the famous minni di vergine pastries, filled with crema di latte, chocolate chips and zuccata. Trapani is one hour and from here you can reach the Egadi Islands via boat.
Local points of interest from Federico
- Baglio Spanò is nestled among vineyards, silence, and Mediterranean scents: the ideal place to experience an authentic, relaxing Sicily, far from mass tourism.
- The coast of Petrosino can be reached in just a few minutes: beaches, low rocky shores, and sunsets over the sea make every day perfect for relaxation, walks, and enjoying nature.
- Just a short distance away lies Marsala, famous for its wine, historic centre, wineries, and the Stagnone salt pans, where you can admire spectacular sunsets.
- Mazara del Vallo captivates visitors with its Kasbah, harbour, colourful alleyways, and the unique blend of Sicilian, Arab, and Mediterranean cultures.
- The Stagnone Nature Reserve, with its windmills, salt pans, and shallow waters, is perfect for excursions, photography, kitesurfing, and visits to the island of Mozia.
- Wines, olive oil, fresh seafood, traditional desserts, and Mediterranean cuisine showcase the authentic taste of western Sicily through its wineries, markets, and local restaurants.
