The Experience

Welcome to an early 20th-century villa surrounded by centuries-old olive trees, pines, wisteria, birds and roses…and the scent of orange blossom wafting in the air. Who would know you were on the edge of the city?

Whether you self-cater in one of the beautiful barns (two with terraces) or stay in a stately suite in the villa – or come with friends and take over two entire floors – privacy, comfort and independence are yours. Kitchens are stocked with luscious olive oil, each piece of furniture carries a story, and there are innumerable private spots in the gardens.

Should you choose to go B&B, you’ll eat the best pastries in Trapani. Try the cassatelle, cannoli, brioche, genovesi ericine…the latter originate from the perched hill town of Erice (a thrilling 20-minute journey). Also unmissable are the coves of Favignana, their crystal-clear waters home to parrotfish and sea urchins. Hail the ferry.

Reviews

We had a wonderful stay. Agostino and his lovely staff couldn’t have been more welcoming, helpful, efficient and friendly. The villa is beautiful inside and out with lots of pretty places to sit in the gardens. The interiors are thoughtful and elegant. Our room was extremely clean with high quality linen and towels, a new bed and a spacious, high spec new bathroom. Beautiful Trapani was a short car/taxi drive away. It was full of wonderful architecture, sea views and many fantastic restaurants. We loved it! And we loved Agostino! A wonderfully elegant, relaxing, friendly place to stay!

We loved our time at Villa Angelina and were very sad to leave. What is there not to love about superb Sicilian breakfasts with fresh fruit, bread, cheeses, hams, pastries and above all the amazing cake! Our modern, spacious apartment was delightful with wonderful touches from the past. We enjoyed sitting in the garden and wandering through the orange, lemon and olive groves. The jacuzzi was much appreciated after a hike through the Zingaro Nature reserve. Agostino made our visit magic, he booked dinner for us, had excellent suggestions on places to visit, a superb host - we will return!

Kind Agostino opened his handsome villa especially for us early in March ahead of the tourist season and looked after us supremely well, providing delicious breakfasts and helpful advice as to how to access downtown Trapani and local places of interest. Our room in the villa was large and comfortable and we greatly enjoyed our stay.

Villa Angelina far exceeded our expectations! My husband and I came here on our honeymoon & wanted a true authentic Trapani experience and that is exactly what we got. Agostino had the most delicious pastries, juices, and breakfast set up for us in the beautiful dining room. Our suite Angelina was beautiful and clean and had everything we needed. The grounds are spectacular. Agostino was a superb host!!!! He gave us recommendations for dinner and even booked the reservation for us. That dinner wound up being our favorite meal of our month long Italian honeymoon! We cannot wait to return!!!

First visit to Sicily and have to say that the Villa Angelina far exceeded expectations. Host Agostino helped make the experience country house hotel meets private palatial villa. It feels like your stay can be fully customised with his local knowledge and nothing too much trouble. Rooms and breakfasts were really first rate and I can see why the prvious occupants were "Holywood royalty". Property has great secure parking and even if full there is so much space you would fee as if you had the place all to yourself.

Wonderful stay at Villa Angelina. We stayed in the main villa in the very comfortable Laura and Girolamo suites with two double bedrooms and two spacious well appointed bathrooms (one of which with a round jacuzzi and large modern shower). It’s an elegant atmosphere in all areas, topped with antiques and decorations everywhere that bring you back in time. Simply fantastic. Breakfast is super and always fresh, boosted with typical local pastries and fruits. Finally, Agostino is a great passionate host with top attention to individual needs. Location is perfect to visit lots of gems in the area.

We had a lovely stay at Villa Angelina this summer. Everything was perfect - the rooms were spacious and clean, very comfortable and quiet. The villa makes you feel like you are living in a different era - we were stunned by beautiful furniture and antiques. The food at breakfast was exceptional, very fresh and from local produce. The best part though is was the “home like” feeling thanks to Agostino and his staff who looked after us very well. We will definitely be coming again and no doubt will choose to stay at Villa Angelina!

I loved the garden with the birds singing and its fragrances, the tropical trees next to the century-old olive trees - it was refreshing, having come from the city! It was interesting to meet Agostino and see his commitment to conservation through performative and sustainable renovation. Next time, I hope I get to try the pizza 'made by the old ladies', as Agostino told me, which he sometimes arranges!

Location

The neighbourhood

Although the villa is next to a main thoroughfare into town, you are shielded by the gardens. Lose yourself in the winding streets of Trapani's heart (50-min walk), stroll the picturesque promenade, bask on the Lido Paradiso. For lovely local food, head for Al Solito Posto on the seafront, a 15-min drive. Cafés, bars and baroque churches abound. Don't miss the cathedral, or Chiesa del Purgatorio.

Local points of interest from Agostino Adragna

  • Hydrofoils leave from the port of Trapani to the Egadi Islands which can also be visited whithin the day. You can rent scooters or bikes to get around Favignana, or rely on the fishermen residing with permission to sail in the protected area of Marettimo.
  • 30 minutes driving from Villa Angelina is Segesta, the old Elymian city, an internationally renowned archaeological site among the best preserved in the world and characterized by a doric-style temple and a greek-roman theater partly excavated in the rock.
  • 35 minutes driving from Villa Angelina is the Stagnone area with the salt pans: the pinkish colors in summer make the spectacular sunset perhaps the most extraordinary in Sicily. Point of interest in this area is Mothia, an ancient Phoenician city, 15 minutes by boat from the mainland
  • Villa Angelina is located at the foot of Mount Erice, on which stands a splendid medieval village rich in culture, history and traditions, from which you can enjoy an exceptional panoramic view overlooking the Gulf of Trapani and the Egadi islands on one side and monte Cofano on the other.
  • About 30 minutes driving from Villa Angelina is the Zingaro Nature Reserve, Makari, Castellamare del Golfo and a little further away San Vito lo Capo, one of the most beautiful white sand beach which also hosts the Cous Cous Festival in September.
  • We like to define Trapani as the heart of every wonder of the senses, a city between two seas with an incredible architectural interest. In summer it is very lively and active, the streets and clubs of the historic center are filled with tourists, creating a fascinating atmosphere.

Introducing

Agostino Adragna

You will be welcomed by helpful, friendly Agostino, who lives in the villa with his family. Also on hand is the discreet, lovable, highly professional housekeeper Lea Poma; there are extra staff in season. Agostino, once a broker in Milan, inherited the villa from his aunt, and in 2018 embarked on his exceptional and sustainable renovation. It remains a work in progress.
