What’s lovely about this tranquil place – apart from the luxuries within – are the long dreamy views and the pool that’s your own. You have utter privacy from the main house, in a limestone hay barn with lots of garden. It’s a superb renovation, awash with space and light, true to the building’s age yet the finest of contemporary, in a lovely untouched corner of Tuscany. Enter an open-plan living area with rustic terracotta floors, deep white sofas, art, books, antiques and flowers. Off which: an immaculate kitchen, a wisteria draped terrace, and a bathroom, surely the most delicious in Italy… impeccable white fittings, vast rain heads suspended from an ancient brick arch, an olive ladder on which to sling a luxurious towel. Then it’s up the open stone stair to Busatti linens and a sumptuous bed. The newly converted garage makes for an airy overspill annexe. Sansepolcro, six miles off, is a draw for art lovers but has chic shops and restaurants too – or fire up the barbecue or the old pizza oven. The owners will also cook on request – the home-grown vegetables, raspberries and olive oil are the biggest treat.
