The Experience

Jog along the running tracks; bask by the pools; saunter up to the restaurant and find a table facing the valley. Dinner here is a treat.

The apartment-filled farmhouses of this vast estate, surrounded by olive groves and vines, are linked by sloping paths lit up at night, and furnished in impeccable style. If you decide to self-cater, you get your own dining terraces, and shops in Massa Marittima (3km). Come for a short stay and you can do B&B – with wonderful Tuscan breakfasts. (Light lunches are available too.) What with yoga and saunas, massages and mountain bikes, a fitness centre, a play park and pools, you need never leave.

On a clear day you can see the beaches at Follonica (18km), loved for their fine sands and crystal waters. You can also see Scarlino on its hill – puff your way up to the castle for amazing sunsets and views.

We think you'll love

  • The facilities, the spaciousness, and the setting
  • Being as secluded or as sociable as you like

Certainly a 'must' for an all round holiday in Maremma. You can be terribly lazy and never get out of the estate, or terribly sporty and bike on all the trails! Il Cicalino caters to all your needs, you can spoil yourself at the well being centre, just gaze at the ever changing sky from your sun bed, or enjoy the cool loggia of your sturdy farm house. Why go anywhere else??

Federico Vecchioni

The Vecchioni family, one of the counts of Piombino, has owned this land since the 1800s. In the 1990s, Federico and his wife Elisabetta, who spend their summers here, took over the farm from Federico’s father, restored the rundown farmhouses, and created the agriturismo we know today. They produce extra virgin olive oil and red wine, and you can catch the harvests in autumn.
