The Experience

The sense of history is palpable. Inside is calming with white walls, terracotta floors, high beamed ceilings and tasteful furniture in a modern Bohemian style. This is a place to relish peace, either outdoors by the pool and garden, or around the open fireplace with a good book or game of cards.

Five light and bright bedrooms sport crisp white linen, mosquito nets and inner wooden shutters, some with views to medieval Montefollonico, others looking to the valley, and all with understated en suite showers. The vast garden has scattered seating areas with lovely views, paths are flanked by rosemary and lavender and you have 26 hectares to explore; all you’ll hear are birds, crickets and the frogs in the stream.

Taste the organic estate wines. Individual breakfast trays include homemade jams and breads, fresh fruit, local cheeses and meats, waffles or cake. Any cares you may have will swiftly vanish at this very tranquil, beautiful place to stay.

Reviews

The feeling of a well-organised, well-run property which does what it claims to do – offer a get-away-from-it-all experience, starts as you go through the entrance gate. It is understated, neat, uncluttered, and all the small details which go to making a B&B a special place offering exactly what the owners intended have been carefully thought out.

Location

The neighbourhood

There are some lovely hiking trails from the door – through the forest or off into the hills which stretch to the horizon. Of the two restaurants in town, one offers a typical Tuscan menu and the other a more modern take on local cuisine. You'll find good restaurants and bigger shops at Montepulciano (10 minutes by car), Pienza (25 mins), Torrita (17 mins) and Florence is just an hour's drive.

Local points of interest from David Hertig

  • Vin Santo Tour and Tasting: Explore centuries-old underground cellars where Tuscany's liquid gold slowly matures in small oak barrels, offering an unforgettable tasting experience of this heavenly dessert wine that ages for 15 years or more.
  • Take a beautiful morning drive to the coast, savour freshly baked pastries and locally roasted coffee in Castiglione della Pescaia, explore the white coastline to find your favourite spot to read a book to the soothing soundtrack of the waves.
  • Hike to Montepulciano: Starting directly from our property, set out on a trail alongside vineyards and olive groves right up to the magnificent Renaissance town of Montepulciano. Reward yourself with a tasty Italian ice cream from a local gelateria.
  • Gregorian songs in Sant'Antimo: Let your spirit soar as the beautiful Gregorian chants of the monks fill the alabaster walls of the ancient Sant'Antimo Abbey, creating a moment of timeless tranquillity that resonates deep within.
  • Romantic wildflower picnic: Escape to a private corner in our vineyards where we'll arrange an intimate and tasty picnics midst wildflowers, completed by a bottle of our own estate wine for an unforgettable romantic moment with your loved one.
  • Sunset views from Monticchiello: Ascend to this medieval village as the day draws to a close. Toast to life's perfect moments as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the Val d'Orcia in hues of amber, rose, and purple against Pienza’s silhouette.
