The Experience

You’ll feel at ease immediately at the bottom of the dusty track in a dreamy landscape of vines, olives, cypresses and century old oaks. All the apartments (the ones upstairs with even better views) have original brick floors, beamed ceilings, antique furniture and wrought iron beds so you’ll absorb the history of the place even in your sleep. There are sofas to laze with a book or simply to stare at the views; traditional tiled bathrooms have showers.

Mini kitchens mean you can rustle up lunch or supper and you’re left basics as well as a welcome hamper of homemade jams, bread and coffee. At the reception the shop sells the owners’ certified Le Bertille red and rosé wine, olive oil from the estate and seasonal organic produce from the orchard and vegetable garden.

Wander paths scented with rosemary and sage, borrow bikes and cycle round the lake, walk to a superb local restaurant for lunch or unwind by the lovely pool in peace.

Reviews

San Gallo is in an idyllic location set among the vineyards and rolling country side at the foot of Montepulciano and within driving distance of a host of other beautiful hill towns. The apartments are lovely and very spacious, each with its own private outdoor space. Lots of places to sit and take in the views, good shade around the pool. We had a really lovely time made all the more special by the warm welcome and helpful advice from everyone we met. Sitting in the evening with a glass of the vineyards own wine looking up at Montepulciano bathed in light was truly magical.

Mary, Dublin

Guests have the dual advantage of independence with self-catering apartments along with the services and attention of gracious hostess Olimpia and her staff, present during the day. Quintessential Tuscan landscapes, traditionally appointed accommodation, and an ideal location from which to explore the highlights of this rich Sienese territory, make this wine estate a top choice

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in 22 hectares of pure, uncontaminated Tuscany and you can visit the stunning church of San Biagio and walk up (steep) steps to enchanting Montepulciano for shops and restaurants and medieval streets. A good restaurant, La Grotta is only 2kms away - try artichoke and zucchini tart with crispy Tuscan bacon. A cheese farm nearby has a shop and a picnic area and you can sample sheeps' cheese.

Local points of interest from Olimpia Roberti

  • You are enclosed in the marvellous landscape of the Tuscan countryside, between the valleys and the hills, neat vineyards, cultivated fields, woods and ancient hamlets. Go out for a walk, you can breath calm and serenity in the air!
  • The agriturismo is located along the wine road in the direction of Pienza, only 2 km far from the Montepulciano village. Visit the Church of San Biagio, example Renaissance architecture in Tuscany.
  • An excellent position allows one to explore the artistic beauty of the Val d'Orcia territory or allows one to try the gastronomic routes that make this region celebrated throughout the world. Monticchiello, Pienza, Bagno Vignoni are only few examples.
  • Enjoy the maximum relax in the swimming pool. The shade of old olive trees and the sounds of nature know how to regulate your instants.
  • Book your Le Bertille wine tasting! Take a walk among the wineyards and visit the winery to discover the secrets that are hidden behind the famous Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
  • Our area has a concentration of the largest thermal structures in the world. Bagno Vignoni, Bagni San Filippo, Rapolano Terme, and San Casciano Bagni are easy to reach destinations.

Introducing

Olimpia Roberti

Olimpia's father bought the estate in the 70s and the family (from Milan) spent their summers here. Of the three daughters only Olimpia chose to leave the city and her career as an attorney to take over the wine production and holiday business. In 20 years she's transformed the place, adapting it to guests' needs - the place shines as an example of the philosophy of agriturismo farm hospitality.
