The Experience

Settled at the edge of a valley, this characterful old farmhouse has the easy-going feel of a much-loved family home. The owner’s parents restored it with care: expect intriguing art, wonderful antiques and the sort of details that reward a closer look. It’s gloriously unpretentious – just the place to kick off your shoes and settle in.

The big kitchen and sitting room are made for long, lazy gatherings, with a mezzanine TV room tucked above. Three double bedrooms – one downstairs, two above – have garden views, traditionally tiled floors and antique linens on the beds.

Outside, the garden feels almost secret, with mature fig, pomegranate and olive trees, jasmine and towering cypress. Then there’s the pool: serenely positioned, with views of vineyards, olive groves and winding cypress-lined roads. Come to explore Tuscany, but leave time for the very tempting alternative of doing absolutely nothing.

Location

The neighbourhood

Wonderful walks from the door in every direction. Head to a good restaurant (five miles) Radda in Chianti (six miles) and Castellina in Chianti (14 miles) for grocery shopping, wine bars and hilltop views. Nearby Castello di Meleto (three miles) has a medieval fortress worth a visit. Further afield, Siena (25 miles) and Florence (40 miles) both make an easy day trip.
