The Experience

Chiara has the top floor of the house and you have the run of the rest. Guests can lounge for as long as they like with a cup of tea or glass of wine in the sunny sitting room or the ‘greenhouse’ room with big windows looking onto the garden. There’s also a cinema room and yoga space in the newly renovated annex. Pots overflow with geraniums, an apricot tree produces fruit for your breakfast jam and there’s a side portico for eating out.

Breakfast is organic and almost completely local. There’s a small dairy in the hamlet – walk over to see how traditional ricotta is made, or taste creamy local Latteria. Spend the day exploring this most beautiful and less travelled area – walk into Trichiana for a good pizzeria and plenty of shops or join several walking trails, one to the river Piave.

Chiara recommends Al Borgo for supper. Return to south facing bedrooms, one with a private terrace, and bathrooms with spacious rain showers. Sleep peacefully, it’s quiet here.

We used Chiara’s place as a jumping off point for our mountain bike trip in the Dolomites. Chiara is a wonderful host with great recommendations of what to do and where to eat. Her villa is very nice and comfortable, and she had a secure spacious area for us to store our bikes and gear. You get a true Italian experience!

Veneto is so much more than Venice and there is probably no better place to discover some of the lesser visited attractions than to stay at La Serra. A comfortable haven of peace and quiet, surrounded by stunning scenery. Chiara‘s expert knowledge of the area will enable anyone to get the most out of a visit. She is a host par excellence and serves up the most delicious local food in the surroundings of her beautifully restored home. Thoroughly recommended.

Janet, London

We can't recommend La Serra - and Chiara as host - highly enough. The breakfasts were delicious (and with allergies carefully catered for), the recommendations for food and art and walks and historic towns were brilliant, the conversation fascinating, and the room was beautifully furnished and so quiet - and all this with the jaw-dropping backdrop of the majestic Dolomites. We had a wonderful three days and will definitely be returning to La Serra and this special corner of Italy.

Alessandra, Rome

What a wonderful stay ! Our days at Chiara’s house have just a passed too quickly. We started our days with a lovely breakfast in the charming garden surrounded by the Dolomiti mountains , a real treat ! With the precious and special tips that Chiara was always ready to give us we had the opportunity to discover many little tresors . From Chiara’s house we could easily reach famous places such as Cortina , Belluno , Feltre but the most interesting tour was definitely at Canova’s house in Possagno : the Museum Gypsotheca was really impressive. Difficult to leave …..just hope to be back soon

Location

The neighbourhood

The group of historic houses is surrounded by fields, farms and the magnificent backdrop of the Dolomite mountains in the distance. 6kms away is Mel, voted one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Take a trip to Feltre, 22kms, for its lovely walled citadel - on the way there or back stop in Pedavena to visit its historic brewery founded in 1897. There are many dairy visits or wine tours.

Local points of interest from Chiara Alpago-Novello

  • There are several walks starting from the house, no need to drive. But if you feel like driving, the possibilities are endless: easy, short walks or trekking and hiking in the Dolomites, Unesco's heritage, everyone can find its own pace.
  • This is Dolomites‘ Kingdom. Alta Via 1 and 2 land in Belluno and Feltre respectively. The first one connects Lake Braies in Val Pusteria (Bz) with Belluno and the latter Bressanone (Bz) with Feltre. Nearby are two important rock gyms for free climbing.
  • Less than 7 km from la Serra there is Mel, high on the hill, voted one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. At 22 km you’ll find the town of Feltre, with its characteristic walled citadel. Belluno, and the unique front on PIave's river, is 12 km away.
  • On the way to Feltre a stop in Pedavena, a brewery founded in 1897, is highly recommended. Book a visit to the brewery and or have lunch in the restaurant. Try Centenario beer, served only on tap. And browse the shop for beers, local food and souvenirs.
  • Belluno’s Valley is scattered with lakes and streams, which often have carved deep and spectacular gorges. Less than 6 km from la Serra you find Brent de l’Art, a series of canyons, spectacular in any season. Guided tours are available, on request.
  • There are many (and counting) very good local wineries I can recommend, but a visit to the Prosecco area takes 30 minutes by car. While you are there, don't miss the extraordinary Gypsotheca and Antonio Canova Museum, in Possagno. just 10 minutes away.

Introducing
