The
Experience
Four simple holiday apartments are set in a traditional house in the old quarter of a sleepy fishing village. Anne has furnished them with much creativity and makes you very welcome.
Although the apartments have their own patios it’s sociable here, with an internal courtyard sporting a barbecue and a bar, and two roof terraces for morning coffee or sundowners.
Walk down early in the morning to buy fresh fish from the previous night’s catch – octopus is the specialty here – or sample them in the excellent family-run restaurants a short walk away. Take the ferry to sandy Atlantic beaches that go on for miles – you or can walk there in two miles if you’re feeling energetic. The resort town of Tavira is easily accessible, either by a short drive, a bus trip, walking or cycling on a dedicated path. Here you’ll find supermarkets, more restaurants, a medieval castle and a church.

Location
The neighbourhood
Salt marshes separate the sleepy fishing village of St Luzia from the open sea; there are no hotels here, only houses, apartments and a few shops, plus some excellent fish restaurants lining the waterfront. The village overlooks the lagoons and waterways of Ria Formosa natural park, a haven for migratory birds, and boat tours are available in summer. Take the passenger ferry for miles of quiet sandy beaches – they leave every 30 minutes in summer and once an hour in the off-season.
Local points of interest from Anne van Oudenhove
- National Park Ria Formosa. We are situated in the National Park Ria Formosa which is one of the biggest national parks in Portugal. There are over 100 islands and more than 100 different kinds of birds living in the national park.
- Cacelha Velha. One of the nicest viewpoints over the coastline of the National Park Ria Formosa is just a short drive from Santa Luzia, you have the most amazing stunning views over the islands into the Atlantic Ocean.
- A beautiful drive to visit two larger cities, such as Lisbon or Seville. Both cities are definitely worth a visit. Lisbon is around 300 kilometers from the house and Seville (which is the capital of Andalusia) is only 200 kilometers from Santa Luzia.
- From the house, you can walk into the village, where you have an offer of 15 different restaurants to choose from. Apart of the restaurants, there are two supermarkets and some little tapa bars where you can chill with a beer or a little snack in between.
- Sagres and Lagos, which is at the West Coast, are offering a big variation of beaches. The beaches are smaller and have the beautiful rocks around them. Definitely worth to go to the end of the world, Sagres and Cape Saint Vincent.
- In just half an hour driving, you arrive in Spain where you can visit the beautiful city of Ayamonte, offering a lot of Spanish shops and lovely local tapa bars and restaurants. There is even a little Zoo for the smaller children and a botanical garden.

Introducing
Anne van Oudenhove
Anne is bubbly, friendly and helpful and speaks five languages fluently, including Dutch, German, French and English. She worked a travel industry rep for many years and met her Swiss husband Franz when showing a group of Europeans around the national parks of the USA. They later settled in Tavira with their two kids, in a family home which they run as a business.
