The Experience

In a glorious setting surrounded by rocky mountains and circling vultures, down a tarmacked road find two charming cottages with cosy, rustic interiors and an apartment. Wood-burning stoves keep you warm on cool evenings and you can barbecue on your private terrace when it’s balmy. A delightful inner courtyard filled with shrubs and flowers has cushioned benches for sitting quietly with a book or just enjoying the peace. Laze by the pool by day, or night – perfect for stargazing.

Landscaped gardens lead down to the horses: June and Clive, your kind, easy-going English hosts run an ethical horse rescue and riding centre. They can lead you on sure-footed, gentle horses through open fields, cool pine forests, olive groves and streams with gorgeous views. They also run courses on ethical horsemanship.

Non-riders can walk, climb, drink from mountain springs or just nod off in the shade. You’ll feel relaxed and happy in the atmosphere here.

Reviews

There are several aspects that struck me about Cortijo los Lobos: it's a magical place as the valley and views are stunning. The owners are passionate and transmit this in a lovely, calm way. I also felt I was at a unique and special place, because it was largely created for abandoned animals, and this comes across when one wanders around and sees the well-kept horses in their open paddocks.

Our second visit, returning after 5 years. Clive and June gave us the most wonderful warm welcome and showed us our accommodation - the secret garden. What a delightful cosy retreat, very private, our own rock pool and garden. We will be back again very soon If you’re looking to get away from the rat race and want to recharge, this is the place to come.

Beverley, St. Neots

The perfect rural retreat. surrounded by mountains bathed in sunshine. With Junes & Clive's gorgeous animals for company as desired. an hour away from so many of Spain's amazing 'must see' places to visit. The accommodation is traditional Spanish style with all mod cons, so cosy and comfy and homely. The pool is the perfect way to cool off when sunbathing gets a little warm. There are fabulous walk routes to enjoy the stunning scenery and horse riding available for those that want to. June and Clive's make everyone so welcome and are the perfect hosts. I can't wait to return.

Beautiful gem of a place in the Andalusian countryside. Stunning mountain views and fantastic walking trails. So much to do in the area. June and Clive are fantastic hosts and work so hard to look after their guests. The animals make the place very special and its a treat to spend time with them.

Cortijo Los Lobos is a gem of a place. The various homes have been beautifully made and maintained by the owners. It's in a lovely place - views of the mountains, great walks etc, but still within reach of Malaga and the coast. I've visited five times (I think!) and have enjoyed every stay. The Secret Garden is the newest place, and it looks fab. June and Clive are wonderful hosts. I can thoroughly recommend them.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're in a valley between two mountains. Walking (and riding) paths criss-cross the landscape which is dotted with smallholdings and old olive trees. A small hamlet 2kms down the road serves tapas and local soups. It's very beautiful and quite remote, the nearest proper village being 6kms away - Villanueva del Trabuco, which has a market, restaurants and shops. Malaga is a 40-minute drive.

Introducing

June & Clive Wolfe

June and Clive moved here with their three children in 2000. Dedication to their rescue animals is their driving passion - June grew up riding in the traditional way but realised when she actually owned horses how much they prefer living in herds and in as natural an environment as possible. They have two friendly, well-behaved rescue dogs and four cats - a few of which live down at the stables.
