The Experience
In a glorious setting surrounded by rocky mountains and circling vultures, down a tarmacked road find two charming cottages with cosy, rustic interiors and an apartment. Wood-burning stoves keep you warm on cool evenings and you can barbecue on your private terrace when it’s balmy. A delightful inner courtyard filled with shrubs and flowers has cushioned benches for sitting quietly with a book or just enjoying the peace. Laze by the pool by day, or night – perfect for stargazing.
Landscaped gardens lead down to the horses: June and Clive, your kind, easy-going English hosts run an ethical horse rescue and riding centre. They can lead you on sure-footed, gentle horses through open fields, cool pine forests, olive groves and streams with gorgeous views. They also run courses on ethical horsemanship.
Non-riders can walk, climb, drink from mountain springs or just nod off in the shade. You’ll feel relaxed and happy in the atmosphere here.

We came to Cortijo los Lobos for a week in October half term and had a fantastic time staying in El Establo. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped, with plenty of outdoor space (both private and shared with other guests). The heated pool was a favourite with our two young children, as were all the animals. We also thoroughly enjoyed exploring the surrounding area - the authentic Spanish nature of both Villaneuva del Trabuco and Antequera was a joy to experience. Similarly, the surrounding countryside was fantastic to watch and walk in. Many thanks, Clive and June. Gracias!

We arrived to a warm welcome from our hosts, June and Clive and instantly felt at ease. We had booked 2 hours of riding a day, leaving us plenty of time by the pool! This place surpassed all our expectations. The accommodation was traditionally spanish, comfortable and clean. The stunning pool and location were great but the friendly horses and dogs really steal the show! Riding was through the olives groves and on mountain tracks on shoeless, bit-less and very happy horses. As inexperienced riders we gained a lot of confidence and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. We hope to return soon!

We were made to feel instantly at home in this delightful haven in the countryside. The surroundings and the pool were calm and relaxing and for us being adopted by the family pets was an added bonus. Clive and June make a point of understanding peoples preferences and June has a knack of matching her horses to riders for those wanting to take advantage of the option to ride. A gentle hack through olive groves in the early morning sunshine was just a delight even for a nervous rider like me.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're in a valley between two mountains. Walking (and riding) paths criss-cross the landscape which is dotted with smallholdings and old olive trees. A small hamlet 2kms down the road serves tapas and local soups. It's very beautiful and quite remote, the nearest proper village being 6kms away - Villanueva del Trabuco, which has a market, restaurants and shops. Malaga is a 40-minute drive.

Introducing
June & Clive Wolfe
June and Clive moved here with their three children in 2000. Dedication to their rescue animals is their driving passion - June grew up riding in the traditional way but realised when she actually owned horses how much they prefer living in herds and in as natural an environment as possible. They have two friendly, well-behaved rescue dogs and four cats - a few of which live down at the stables.
Lovely accommodation set in beautiful gardens and a rural landscape which encourage relaxation. Being able to ride was the icing on the cake, even for a beginner like me and I felt safe at all times. June and Clive run a very special place, its a real haven.
