The Experience

Leave your car at the bottom of the hill and Ton or Helga, the Dutch owners, will collect you by buggy and give you a guided tour of the town at the same time – you’re slap bang in the middle of all the action with townsfolk gossiping and children playing so you’ll feel very Spanish.A sprinkling of squat white houses cling to the hillside and at its centre is the relaxed Angels Inn. The vibe is part Spanish, part Moroccan and bedrooms radiate out from a central patio where you breakfast at separate tables. There’s a cool-off pool here too and inside you’ll find a library with books and games.Have an evening drink from the honesty bar and consult the ‘fun map’ provided, then head into the lively town square for plenty of bars and people-watching or drive back down winding roads to Marbella. The curious will enjoy exploring the old town but there’s plenty of glitz too.

Delightful hotel, owners and staff. The town was fun to walk around, small but very nice. Breakfast really good. Beware: hotel takes dogs and is very kind to them, but they are not allowed in the dining room. That is ok as there are plenty of other places for dinner or you can leave your dog in the room.

A lovely small hotel with attentive owners and staff.Spotlessly clean with comfortable bedrooms and good bathrooms.Excellent breakfast provided on the patio.Table service if quiet or buffet style when busy.Eggs/french toast cooked to order. Alex the owner is a good chef and the meal nights are recommended. All the staff have expert knowledge of the area and are keen to provide details to enhance your stay. We will return. The village is small but has plenty of bars and a few good restaurants.

A Beautiful place. Perfect room with good beds and a good shower. The owner Alex is a very good cook. We enjoyed the 3 diners we had in the hotel. Around the corner of the hotel is the village square with nice bars for tapas.

This is an exceptional property. Run by Dutch expats who really know how to take care of their guests. This posada is extremely well maintained and the breakfasts are superb. Alex is also an accomplished chef and prepares evening meals for guests several times a week. Cant say enough good things.

Having driven from Portugal the drive into Ojen was stunning. The Andalusia village is beautiful with its maze of little streets coming together at friendly squares where the friendly locals smile and welcome you into their small community, a wonderful contrast to Marbella. Inside the front door ,of one of the tiny side streets, a truly wonderful B&B awaits, each room beautifully designed by the owners Ton and Helga, who have thought of every little detail. Three other members of staff, obviously carefully selected by the owners help deliver an excellent service, including a gorgeous breakfast

The neighbourhood

Step out of your door and you’re immersed in real Spanish life; stroll to the Plaza Andalucía for coffee, drive down to the coast or explore Marbella’s old quarter - a charming maze of small streets with good places to eat and drink. Around Cadiz and Málaga you’ll find Los Pueblos Blancos – The White Villages – Moorish homes clinging to steep hillsides, and in Malaga itself is the Picasso Museum. Hike in the Sierra de las Nieves.

Local points of interest from Helga van Der Zon

  • The white Andalusian village of Ojén is a good 10 minutes drive from Marbella and the coast of the Costa del Sol. Straight up in the Mountains. This idyllic location offers the advantage of being close to the lively tourist scene without having to be in.
  • A village square where you can sit and enjoy your “Cafe con Leche” in the early morning or your ice cold glass of San Miguel in the late afternoon. Where the Spanish children are playing around the fountain and restaurants offer tapas for reasonable prices
  • The coast with its beautiful beaches isn’t the only thing which is quick and easy to get to from Ojén, but also almost 50 golf courses, Malaga airport and the national park of Sierra de las Nieves to name but a few notable things.
  • Ojén is the perfect base from which you can discover a beautiful part of Andalusia. This area has many beautiful attractions from the beautiful Pueblos Blancos, that are scattered throughout the region to the big cities of Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada.
  • A lot of daytrips can be made: like a visit to Ronda, spotting orca´s near Tarifa, guided bike tour in Malaga, the Camino del Rey or even a visit to Marroco.
  • In the village of Ojén there are some houses for rent as well. We offer townhouses with a sunny roof terrace and a finca with its own swimming pool. People renting can use the swimmingpool of the hoytel and come for all kinds of information

Helga van Der Zon

Ton and Helga, your Dutch hosts, live near the hotel with their two sons and an friendly old Labrador. They are very involved in the day-to-day running – they collect guests, make jams and yogurts for breakfast, offer you a map they’ve made of the local area. They see the hotel as a work in progress and are always making improvements like the recently installed glass patio wall. They plan to open a restaurant in the village as they don’t serve lunch or evening meals in the hotel.
