The Experience

A summer room with floor-to-ceiling windows has fantastic views of the surrounding greenery, just the spot for a quiet read, but there’s a cosy living room with TV and wood-burner, a separate snug and a small, well-equipped kitchen to the side. Most of the cooking can be done outdoors where all can sit, chat, eat, drink and enjoy themselves.

One bedroom is on the ground floor, the other upstairs with its own Juliet balcony. Both are restful and have en suite bathrooms, one with a shower the other with a bath. The house is big on outside space with well-tended flowers and trees, a super outdoor kitchen, plenty of seating, the sparkling pool and far-reaching views to mountains and sea. Hard to beat.

Drive ten minutes to Frigiliana, voted the prettiest village in Andalucia; stock up with local food and wine then come home to cook in the garden and watch the lights pop up along the hillside as the sky darkens. Feel at peace.

Reviews

I really liked this little place, big on outside space and cozy, bijou and compact on the inside. If you are looking for a clean, crisp, comfortable place with all the privacy you could ask for, this is your place. The outside is bountiful on colours from the beautiful surrounding garden, and inside the house it's white, light and simply delightful. With Frigiliana and Nerja nearby, it's ideally situated.

Location

The neighbourhood

This is delightful countryside and walkers will be up and off early for stupendous climbs and views. There is a small supermarket and a wide choice of restaurants in Frigiliana but Nerja, about 20 minutes, has bigger shops. The 'lost village' of El Acebuchal a little further up the mountain has a very good traditional Spanish restaurant and a fascinating history. Costa del Sol beaches are 20-25 mins.

Local points of interest from Paul Reynolds

  • Frigiliana village is undoubtedly the star attraction in our little corner of the Axarquia but there is so much more as we have found out over the years, the national park is on our doorstep with scores of trails where you will have nature all to yourself.
  • Take time to visit the village of Acebuchal with its unique history, a tale of hope and redemption set in a stunning valley, a wonderful place to contemplate the meaning of life and have a great coffee.
  • A twenty minute drive will take you to Burriana beach, hugely popular with locals and tourists, try one of its many beachside bars and restaurants, try one of the water sports, or just soak up the sun, get there early to bag a sun bed and a parking space.
  • Granada is just over an hour drive on the motorway but it's well worth taking the slow road along the coast, now a cyclists dream thanks to the motorway but you might not make it to Granada till much later but you'll remember the journey for a long time.
  • Frigiliana is like most Andalucian villages, it loves to party and will find any excuse, Ferias, Fiestas, Soap Box Derbys, Art trails, Tapas run, countless Saints days and in the third week of August the renowned Three Cultures Festival.
  • If none of these float your boat then just sit back and relax by the pool with whatever you fancy, close your eyes and listen to the silence.
