The Experience
Find a slower pace of life here, exploring the green landscapes of Asturias from this beautifully calm and comfortable house.
Step out for good walks from the door, drive to the rugged Picos de Europa mountains, visit attractive regional capital Oviedo or the port of Gijón. Back at the villa, help yourself to tea and coffee in the snug, and borrow guidebooks, games and novels from the library.
Food is a real passion for your hosts: a sumptuous breakfast includes home-baked sourdough breads, cakes, home-made jams and local Asturian cheeses. Book for half board, or just opt for occasional dinners, so you can sample Dave’s superb three course menus, mostly organic and inspired by seasonal and local ingredients. Eat at your own table in the dining room, or in summer out in the lovely sunny garden.

We loved it so much we stayed an extra night - charming knowledgeable hosts, lovely rooms, stunning views of the Picos de Europe, incredibly peaceful, 3/4 hours drive to mountains, beaches or cities (Oviedo & Gijon) good local hill walks and best of all delicious food - we ate in three nights out of four - and not forgetting the dog Carson!!

Location
The neighbourhood
You are in a quiet hamlet deep in rural Asturias, with beautiful walks from the house. Dave can show you routes, lend maps and you can follow directions via a mobile app to make navigation easy. Views towards dramatic mountain ranges from the garden might inspire you to visit - the Picos de Europa National Park is 45 minutes by car and El Sueve 25 minutes. To eat out, drive 10-15 minutes to Infiesto and try Pušáki's excellent tasting menu.
Local points of interest from Dave Haxby
- Pintueles is a walker´s paradise and a typical Asturian village, with an 18th century church, a proud collection of hórreos, and home to the El Sidrón nature reserve. Stroll through forests, spot wild boar or deer, soaring eagles and wild flowers.
- Asturian gastronomy is famed throughout Spain for its quality. Sample authentic foods in the collection of traditional sidrerías and chigres or treat your palate to the real deal in one of the 1 or 2-star Michelin restaurants close by.
- An all-year-round extravaganza of traditional village festivals including: the Hazelnut Festival, craft & farmers markets, Easter parades & Infiesto´s very own Feria de Abril, a small, but equally entreating version of Sevilla´s most famous festival.
- Romanesque churches of Santa María (Villamayor) and San Juan de Berbío (Infiesto) line a stretch of the Camino de Santiago for pilgrims walking in-land from Covadonga to Oviedo. Infiesto is also home to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Cueva.
- Piloña is home to the rare ¨caballo Asturcón¨, a bread of horses native to the El Sueve Nature Reserve and Monte Cayón, where there is a picnic area with BBQs and walks through forests and hilltops offering impressive views of the Picos de Europa.

Introducing
Dave Haxby
Multilingual Javier, originally from nearby Gijón, was a language teacher in the UK, and Dave an IT solutions specialist. Together they took the leap to sell up, hunt for a house and redesign it for guests. Dave leads with flare in the kitchen, Javier looks after the rest immaculately, and has a host of local knowledge. Together they and their lovable dog Carson give guests a great welcome. They are passionate about Asturias and what they do.
El Gran Sueño is indeed a special place to stay. The views alone are worth the journey but when you combine them with the stunning decor, charming and knowledgable hosts and delicious, organic food, this really becomes the perfect destination in a truly beautiful region. Top quality accommodation which provides a relaxing atmosphere, free of pretension but with every need anticipated - what more could you ask for! Highly recommended.
