The Experience

This lovely 200-year-old farmhouse is set in a sleepy and authentic little village a short distance from the sea and has been recently refurbished – everything is sleek, fresh and homely.

John and Stephanie have thought of everything to make you happy – not surprising as this was their home first! Enter to an elegant courtyard with a good-sized pool, pots erupting with colourful plants, a garage stuffed with bicycles, boogie boards and a BBQ. Runners and cyclists can press go from the door (or use the gym and sauna indoors), lazy lumps have a sitting room with comfy sofas and a wood-burning stove (logs on the house).

Cook up a storm in the snazzy kitchen – a generous welcome hamper has wine and the basics for a first meal. Eat together around a big table outside; sneak off to a spare study for a quiet read; wander the pretty garden with its well-established trees and shrubs, or walk to the village for restaurants and shops

Reviews

John and Stephanie have thought of everything their guests might need - having travelled extensively themselves, they know what makes a home from home. With plenty of sports equipment there's lots of scope for an active holiday, but equally with the comfort of the villa and the pool, you may well choose to relax and do nothing!

Florence, Sawday's inspector

Our family of 4 (2 teenagers) really enjoyed our Lanzarote holiday which was made so enjoyable by staying at the well appointed and beautiful Villa Guatiza. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners Stephanie & John. Much thought has gone into the comfort and enjoyment of the property. The kitchen and facilities were modern and practical (garage with bikes, gym and laundry) as well as the pool in the peaceful private courtyard and the pretty garden with veranda perfect for evening drinks. The village of Guatiza is unspoilt and near the lovely town Teguise.

We very much enjoyed our stay in Villa Guatiza. Stephanie, the owner, greeted us in person late in the evening which was appreciated after a long journey, as was the welcome pack which included a bottle of the delicious local wine. The stylish house is very comfortable and spacious. The children loved the heated pool. The local pizza restaurant is very good with friendly owners. The Caesar Manrique-designed cactus garden is very close to the house and definitely worth a visit. Lanzarote is a striking, largely unspoilt island with plenty of beautiful places to visit such as Famara beach.

Hester, Brighton

We travelled as a family (2 teenagers). The villa is really beautiful and the interior have been done exquisitely. it is clean and has everything you could need. The owner met us on arrival and gave us lots of information. She also welcomed us with enough food just to get us started which was particularly lovely after a long journey. The owners are delightful and local in case of questions. Nothing is far in Lanza and we did all the sites as well as paragliding and scuba diving. You will not be disappointed with this gorgeous property - in fact you may not want to leave it!

Location

The neighbourhood

The villa is on a quiet street in the village of Guatiza; there are other houses around but the overall feel is private. Guatiza itself is small but has a few shops and an Italian restaurant a six-minute walk away; there’s also a cactus garden on the edge of the village designed by the artist César Manrique. Arrieta, a 10-minute drive away, has a sandy beach and a good seafront restaurant.

Local points of interest from John & Stephanie Walsh

  • Villa Guatiza is a 200 year old villa farmhouse sitting on a private 7,500 m2 densely planted finca in Lanzarote.
  • It is less than 10 minutes to lovely Lanzarote beaches and seafood restaurants in Arrieta, the 18-hole golf course is 15 minutes casual driving and walking & cycling trails are outside the door.
  • There is a small local supermarket 2 minutes walking from the Finca, a small bank with ATM and 2 restaurants
  • The villa has been renovated sympathetically to the original building, and with a great eye for detail both inside and out; it is a stunning success.
