The Experience

Committed walkers and nature-lovers, this is for you. Mireia, an energetic former archaeologist, believes passionately in sustainable tourism and has turned her grandfather Leonardo’s inn resolutely towards her mission, with the help of her mother, husband and three young children, lovely people all. You will receive exceptional hospitality, eat fabulous homemade food and be guided towards superb Pyrenean foothill walking. The best? A hostal-to-hostal tour with luggage carried for you. The bedrooms are unusually attractive with colour, character and super bathrooms. And their old-style beds are good. Mireia’s personal touches make the communal rooms special: glass cabinets full of old, historical objects – toys, magazines, pharmaceuticals – show what the place was like as a working posada a hundred years ago; locals and family happily share today’s warm woody bar; the fire crackles. The B&B is a beacon of taste by the river in an unpretty village – and the mountain trails that take you through glorious nature are a five-minute walk away. Or explore the UNESCO-listed Romanesque churches of the Boi Valley.

Reviews

If ever there is a place or person that embodies what I presume is Sawday's philosophy, it must be this house, with Mireia as guardian of traditional values, social, environmental, historical and cultural.

  • Welcome to Parc Nacional d'Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici & AroundCatalonia’s only national park extends 20km east to west, and just 9km north to south. But the rugged mountain terrain within this small area sparkles with over 200 lakes and countless streams and waterfalls, combined with pine and fir forests, and open bush and grassland, decked with springtime wildflowers or fringed with scarlet autumn leaves.
  • In the Fosca Valley, a cable car operates from July to September from the Sallente reservoir to Lake Gento, the starting point for a number of interesting hikes.
  • THE ROMANESQUE CHURCHES ROAD IN THE VALL DE BOÍDeclared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000, the Romanesque Churches are exceptional due to its conservation over the passage of time owing to their inaccessibility.
  • One of Spain's Best Hikes Through Mont-Rebei GorgeHiking in the Mont-Rebei Gorge offers a perfect combination of risk, adventure, and aerobic activity, all packed into a concise day trip. There are opportunities for further exploration if you're looking for more action, and it is easy to tailor your experience to your own interests.
  • Montcortès Lake: Included in the PEIN (Natural Interest Landscape Plan of Catalonia). It is the only lake in the Pirineus with a karst, non glacial, origin. Its waters come form an internal sprout and it is between 20 and 40 metres deep. This lake area is one of the most important reserves for water birds around the Pyrenees, and lodges a great variety of migratory birds, such as the mallard, the osprey or the snipe. It has, in addition, a wide range of flora and fauna, some of them scarcely found in other areas of the Pyrenean territories.
