The Experience
Follow the dirt track through oak trees and open countryside to this wonderfully secluded old flour mill, where the river still runs alongside the house and birdsong replaces the noise of everyday life.
Inside, there’s an enormous dining room, cosy sitting rooms, five double bedrooms and an Arabic-style hammam with a warm pool and Finnish sauna. There’s plenty of space for everyone to spread out, with a library for quiet moments and old-world details throughout, from dark wood and antiques to high, beamed ceilings.
Outside, there are over a thousand acres of wild country to explore, with two pools, shady places to eat and plenty of room to roam. You can cook for yourselves, barbecue under the oaks or, with notice, leave meals to the property managers Javier and Margarita – perhaps paella, a roast from the wood-fired oven or a feast of local game. Come evening, pour a glass of the estate’s own red and watch the stars appear.

We think you'll love
- Gathering a crowd of friends or family under one roof (the house can accommodate up to 16 people), with room for everyone to spread out
- Living a slower, more traditional way of life, from homegrown wine to game from the owners' land
- Spending nights under some of the darkest skies in Europe, with nothing but the river and birdsong for company
You should know
- The nearest airports are a couple of hours away, so this suits a proper stay rather than a quick weekend
- There's no public transport and the final stretch is a dirt track, so a sturdy car is essential
- The grounds are huge, so exploring properly takes time (and a bit of stamina)

Location
The neighbourhood
Puebla de Don Fadrique (15 mins’ drive) has supermarkets and two excellent restaurants, El Mirador de la Villa and El Convento, both serving modern Andalusian dishes. The Sierra de la Sagra rises all around, with a UNESCO Geological Park nearby hiding hot springs and canyons. Expect vultures and eagles overhead, and deer and boar roaming the hillsides.
Local points of interest from José Alarcón
- Walk, cycle or mountain bike in the Sierra de La Sagra, a protected mountain area right on the doorstep. Marked trails for all levels, and road cycling routes across the surrounding high plateau.
- One of the darkest skies in Europe. With no towns nearby and the estate at 1400m, the Milky Way and shooting stars are visible from the garden. Perfect for stargazing.
- The house sits beside the stream in the Barranco de los Agujeros valley, home to the largest spring in the province of Granada. Streams, woods and waterfalls to explore on foot.
- Guided 4x4 or safari truck tours through our private 600-hectare forest estate to spot deer, mouflon, wild boar and birds of prey.
- Guided walk through our own vineyards, ending with a private tasting of our wine paired with local cheeses and cured meats. Available on request.
