Picture this: you've just had a lovely day at the beach at Mawgan Porth, perhaps you've been for lunch at Jamie's 'Fifteen' five minutes away. You're walking back through the woods, tots in tow, scraping their spades behind them, and you know, very soon, you'll be relaxing on the terrace at a super-stylish eco retreat. Anyone who still holds on to the idea that 'eco' and 'green' are synonymous with a hairshirt approach to life has not had the good fortune to stay here. Wondrously transformed from derelict barns by architect owner Darrel and his wife Lucy, these stunning loft-like 'cottages', divided for privacy by high willow fences, are kitted out with the best of everything, from sleek designer appliances to top-notch bed linen – and completed with the lightest of impacts. Solar panels, geo-thermal underfloor heating, locally sourced goodies (such as bath potions from St Kitts Herbery), a seasonal Cornish welcome hamper, a superb local info pack... they even provide an eco 'wetsuit station'. These lovely owners, who live on site, are happy for children to meet Horace the donkey and feed the hens. Fabulous.
