The Experience

An island of calm, this grand old rambling vicarage sits in rare bird-filled acres, just a short drive from St Ives. Come for peace and quiet and a classic Cornish welcome from owners Charles and Diana who are devoted to encouraging the arts and crafts.

Find English shabby chic with loads of character and no stuffiness – fresh flowers on the breakfast table, a piano in the corner, rugs on polished floors, masses of books. Your bedroom is in a separate wing with its own sitting room and a fine view of the church from the bath.

In summer you can eat breakfast in the Italianate courtyard, play a game of tennis on the ancient courts and wander the large, lawned gardens. Ask for supper or walk half an hour to the pub.

Reviews

Lovely couple and we look forward to future visits.

Noel, Corsham

We had two very pleasant and relaxing nights at House at Gwinear. Charles and Diana were very warm and welcoming. A beautiful home in beautiful grounds, clearly very cherished. Breakfast was served in the piano room with interesting and friendly conversation, slovenly couple and we look forward to future visits.

Noel and Julie, Corsham

Diana and Charles were very friendly and welcoming, and couldn’t have been more helpful. We really enjoyed meeting them and staying in their charming home. We would definitely go back next time we go to west Cornwall.

Gill, Bovey Tracey

Delightful oasis of calm in idyllic country setting yet close to St Ives. Friendly welcome into the characterful old Rectory with helpful advice and delicious breakfasts.

Jackie, Exeter

For friendly hospitality, comfort and tranquility this is as good as it gets. An excellent supper with wine was served in the gracious dining room on arrival and the lavish breakfasts could not be faulted. The comfortable bedroom and accompanying sitting room provided every need. Charles and Diana's warm family home has become a delightful treasure-trove of stimulating art and artifacts while the lovely park-like garden invites peace and relaxation. We were sorry to leave at the end of such an enjoyable three-night break. Michael and Monica, Hampshire.

Delightful place to stay and Diana and Charles will make you feel very much at home. The wing of the house you stay in is roomy enough, comfortable and relaxed. A treat to have a bathroom with a picturesque view and piping hot water. The garden is just beautiful and the whole place peaceful and welcoming. This was our second visit...a place to stay that invites a return stay. Thank you to Diana and Charles.

We visited for two nights and had the most fabulous time. Hosts Charles and Diana welcomed us in their magnificent home, filled with art and interesting books. The guest room is located in a separate wing with its own sitting area. It is a comfortable and quiet setting. In the morning, a delicious cooked breakfast was served in the music room, and we had great conversations with our hosts. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, warmly recommend this beautiful place, and are looking forward to visiting again.

Lovely old former rectory surrounded by glorious garden and trees.Delightful hosts who can't do enough to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Lovely big bedroom with added bonus of private sittingroom and bathroom.Huge bed which can be split into twins. We had two delicious evening meals with wine and found some excellent places to eat in the area.Would definately recommend this lovely place and can't wait to stay there again. An art and book lover's paradise.

Gwinear is exactly what a B&B should be, comfortable, welcoming and charming. The guest accommodation is a wing of this former vicarage, with it's own bathroom and sitting room. Charles and Diana are impeccable hosts, breakfasts are delicious and there is a swimming pool and grand piano. A 5 star experience.

Anne

The House at Gwinear is beautiful home in which we were made to feel exceptionally welcome. The guest accommodation includes 3 rooms: a double bedroom, large bathroom, and a living room. As well as delicious breakfasts cooked on the Aga, I can heartily recommend booking in for at least 1 evening meal. Charles and Diana once ran a much-lauded restaurant, and you can expect a truly wonderful meal for the price, and catered to your personal requirements. A truly special place to stay. Thank you both!

Shell

Lovely place - a last minute booking and quite a find! Very welcoming and great value with a whole wing of the house and the huge grounds to explore. Plus a large swimming pool and a lovely breakfast in the sheltered courtyard. Perfect!

Colin

The magic of a Sawday listing is how they each in their different way make you feel most welcome---like visiting old friends. No two are ever alike in this respect and rarely have we been disappointed. Charles & Diana are charming people and staying with them at Gwinear was an absolute delight. Highly recommended.

Geoff

Diana and Charles could not have been more welcoming! They made us feel completely at home, and we were spoilt with delicious breakfasts (served in their stunning dining-room), the enjoyment of a delightful spacious bedroom and sitting-room of our own, not to mention spirit-enlivening views of lawns, trees and ancient church! An artist's haven. We would thoroughly recommend it.

Angie

We stayed two delicious nights at the House of Gwinear and it was wonderful; from swimming in the pool to the wonderful 'wing' we stayed in to Diana getting to grips with us being vegetarian - it was utterly perfect. We highly recommend it

Catherine

Wonderfully peaceful location by the ancient local church, yet busy St Ives and Penzance can both be reached in under twenty minutes. Godrevy lighthouse is just three miles away, made famous by Virginia Woolf and the beach’s protected seals and pups. At the estuary, the special birdwatching area is a prime spot to see rare species, while a 40 minute drive will take you to the unique open air theatre at Porthcurnow. Take a picnic.

Local points of interest from Charles & Diana Hall
