The Experience
An island of calm, this grand old rambling vicarage sits in rare bird-filled acres, just a short drive from St Ives. Come for peace and quiet and a classic Cornish welcome from owners Charles and Diana who are devoted to encouraging the arts and crafts.
Find English shabby chic with loads of character and no stuffiness – fresh flowers on the breakfast table, a piano in the corner, rugs on polished floors, masses of books. Your bedroom is in a separate wing with its own sitting room and a fine view of the church from the bath.
In summer you can eat breakfast in the Italianate courtyard, play a game of tennis on the ancient courts and wander the large, lawned gardens. For supper you can walk half an hour to the pub.

A beautiful house with an artfully landscaped garden (park), lovely and interesting hosts, and a wonderful breakfast: All in all, a very worthwhile stay!

This place is a gem, all the more so because of the house owners and hosts, Charles and Diana, whom you would be looking forward to having at the dinner table, so full of interesting stories and tips of their neighbourhood and the community of artists, to which they belong. We did not have them at our dinner table sadly, but nonetheless we were made to feel as welcome as if we had. And their spectacularly beautiful house, on the grounds of a Medieval church, surrounded by its own sculpture garden, was a perfect complement to their grace and hospitality. We shall return!

We spent a week at Gwinear with Charles & DIana. The accommodation is very comfortable and in a separate wing of their house. The bathroom doesn't have a shower, but there's plenty of water to have a deep, relaxing bath! There's a shower available downstairs. We couldn't have been made more welcome. Charles & Diana are extremely friendly, warm and hospitable and go the extra mile to make you feel at home. Breakfasts are freshly cooked in the Aga and delicious. The house is wonderful; bursting with local art which we were invited to enjoy, as well as the beautiful garden and pool.

Diana & Charles were gracious and charming hosts. Breakfasts were sumptuous, and the house itself was just the sort of place we love to stay at. Art everywhere, and fabulous silverware, made by Charles in his workshop at the back of the house. Lots of fun chat, and always he0lpful with suggestions of places to visit and photograph.

Location
The neighbourhood
Wonderfully peaceful location by the ancient local church, yet busy St Ives and Penzance can both be reached in under twenty minutes. Godrevy lighthouse is just three miles away, made famous by Virginia Woolf and the beach’s protected seals and pups. At the estuary, the special birdwatching area is a prime spot to see rare species, while a 40 minute drive will take you to the unique open air theatre at Porthcurnow. Take a picnic.
Local points of interest from Charles & Diana Hall
- Coastal Footpath 3 miles away. Beautiful walks near Godrevy lighthouse. (Virginia Woolf's one) where some of the year over 100 seals and their pups can be seen on a protected beach
- St Ives nearby, which is full of interesting art galleries, funky shops and delicious places to eat. Barbara Hepworth's beautiful garden full of her sculptures and the Tate well worth visiting.
- Explore the ancient stones down towards Lands End. The Nine maidens - a miniature stonehenge but often free of people and many other interesting stoneage relics.
- Special birdwatching area on the estuary at Hayle where interesting and rare species fly in.
- Unique open air theatre at Porthcurnow - the Minnack - only 40 minutes away. You can take a picnic and watch a play roman style!
