The Experience

Standing like sentries guarding the village pub and green below are two whitewashed 1820s roundhouses with thatched roofs and crosses – believed to keep the devil away. Ingenious how everything fits so neatly within the curving walls in this cosy, quirky hideaway that’s full of local art and retro touches.

Step out from the kitchen extension with a morning espresso, park yourself on a lounger and watch the seagulls swoop in the pretty cottage garden. When night falls, soak in the roll top bath, then retire to an enormous bed under a vaulted ceiling.

Bring bicycles, dogs, kit for the beach and walking boots for the South West Coast Path; the Roseland Peninsula is awash with secret coves and seaside restaurants.

Reviews

This was our second stay at the Round House East in Veryan. The cottage is perfect for a couple with a huge comfy bed, relaxing lounge and well equipped kitchen. The decor and art in the cottage are of the owner's eclectic collection and makes the cottage feel like home! The Roseland Peninsula has a host of attractions and is off the beaten track for through traffic. Beautiful Carne beach is a 5 minute drive away and the whole area is unspoilt. The New Inn in Veryan is also very welcoming and is less than 100m from the cottage. Do be prepared for narrow lanes!

We had a lovely week in this very pretty and well equipped cottage. It’s obviously well loved by its owner which made it homely too in this our favourite area of Cornwall. Many dog friendly beaches and so nice to stay in a cottage when it’s obvious your dog is welcome. We bought some great fish at Curgurrel Farm and had a memorable delicious meal in the Driftwood. Tatum’s, the Hidden Hut and the village pub were great for quick meals too. Perfect for a couple and a dog in lovely Roseland.

This is a very fine and unique holiday home highly recommended (visited twice). In heart of beautiful and interesting Roseland area of south Cornwall , yet Truro and Falmouth nearby with excellent facilities. The house is quite unique and very well equipped. Veryan is a picturesque spot fine beaches nearby.

Our favourite Cornwall cottage, Round House East! A gorgeous posy of flowers & welcome pack of local produce on arrival. Everything you need for your 4-legged friend is thoughtfully provided. The well-kept garden is a beautiful suntrap & very secure for dogs. Fabulous tech at the cottage, inc, streaming services & fast reliable Wi-Fi. Spacious kitchen/dining area has everything you need. The super-comfortable bed & all the mod-cons ensure that you have the most relaxing stay. Veryan’s local pub serves good food and the shop/post office stocks all the essentials. Already planning our 10th visit.

We had a wonderful week in this very quirky and stylish cottage. Everything was perfect, apart from the weather but this did not lessen our enjoyment. It is a really special place to stay in a lovely part of Cornwall; we will definitely be back.

Toni, Cambridge

This is our third week we have stayed in 2022, and our 7th visit in the last 4 years. For any couple that want a relaxing break (with or without a dog) this is as perfect as you can get. Thew cottage and garden are lovely and well set up. The good local pub is all of 100 metres away and the village stores the same. Coastal paths and two lovely beaches are a short walk or drive away.

Geoff, Cheltenham

Just returned from a wonderful weeks stay at Roundhouse East in the loverly village of Veryan. The house had everything you could need including a huge bed to rest up after walking the Coastal paths. The local pub was great for meals and cream teas plus quite reasonably priced. Carne & Pendower beaches we’re within walking distance but also have car parking. We did cover a few miles, Nare Head, Portloe, Portscatho. plus St Mawes to St Just (walk past the little church to Miss V’s for lunch or snacks). Charlestown near St Austell is worth a visit plus don’t forget The Lost Gardens of Heligan

2nd time to stay for a week at the Roundhouse. It really is as good as other comments posted. You feel immediately at home, tip top welcome pack (is it my memory or are these gradually being phased out by other properties?), freshly cut wild flowers on kitchen table, fridge big enough for a small army (we stayed during the heatwave) and lovely garden. Enormous bed great too when you’re 6 foot 7. Roseland is pretty quiet which was just what we wanted. Great walks right from the door including coastal path. Recommend getting ferry from St Mawes to Falmouth. You’ll love it.

John, London

Found the accommodation just as advertised - fantastic. Lovely touches around the property made it feel like home. Great location for a couple with a dog. Dog treats were a thoughtful addition to the welcome pack.

Kathryn, Nuneaton

We have just had another lovely week at The Round House East. The house is very homely and you feel very relaxed as soon as you arrive. Lovely personal touches throughout the property and is ideal for us and our 2 dogs. The village and local beaches/walks are perfect. Much quieter area than other parts of Cornwall which is just what we wanted.

Janice, Leighton Buzzard

We have been hiring holiday cottages for over 30 years and this cottage is the best one we have ever stayed in. Beautiful inside and out and spotlessly clean with a lovely secure garden for the dog. The Round House is set in a beautiful village with a village shop, pleasant walks and a great dog friendly pub. The village church was worth a visit and we went to see the Hera long grave. The walk around the village pond and up to Veryan Green is very pretty and an easy walk. We plan to return.

Gwenda & Dave, Camborne, Cornwall

We have just returned from relaxing for two weeks in this beautiful comfortable cottage with our dog. It’s just like staying in someone’s home, not a holiday let! Can’t think of anything we needed that wasn’t provided. Five minutes to the beach by car, local pub is walking distance and there are footpaths accessible from the front door. We enjoyed relaxing in the private, enclosed garden too. We definitely want to return.

Joy, Studham Beds

Just returned from a wonderful stay at The Round House East. Lovely touches such as a welcome bag and card and a bowl full of doggy treats. The house is in an ideal location for many fantastic places to explore not far away and was very clean. THE BED - me and my husband agreed it was probably one of the most comfy beds we have ever slept in!!! Just what you need after a long day. The local pub was very sweet with good, simple pub food and great as it is dog friendly too. Other lovely restaurants in the nearby towns/villages. Would definitely recommend and would happily return again!

Charlotte, Buckinghamshire

What a superb cottage , and very thoughtfully fitted out . Very clean and lovely linen . You could just move in with your food and wine ! Everything else catered for . A three minute walk to the very friendly "New Inn" pub , and the local store (5 minutes walk) has all your day to day supplies . Shame out of season the towns around were so "Covid" affected , less availability , and long lead times for bookings , but this didn't spoil our holiday to much .

Michael, Weybridge , Surrey

We have had the most relaxing week at the Round House and it was the perfect accommodation for the 2 of us and the dog. Every small detail had been thought of which gave a wonderful beginning to what was a fabulous holiday. I have already been recommending the accommodation and area to family and friends. It really is superb!

Carolyn, London

Very well equipped charming house with an extra large comfy bed. Plenty of dog walks and a handy beach although we did not have good weather. Friendly shop and good access to King Harry Ferry and National Trust walks and properties. If we had a problem Ian Rose was easy to contact even though he is based in Sweden.

Gillian, Winscombe

We have just come back from a wonderful week at Roundhouse East. It offered - hands down - the warmest welcome of any holiday cottage we've ever visited, with everything you could need after the long drive. It's very well equipped, spotlessly clean, and in such a beautiful area of Cornwall. There are some amazing walks to do on your doorstep, great beaches, and a pub in staggering distance. Ian and his team are brilliant, on hand for anything you need. Would highly recommend!

Madeleine, London

We have just had a fabulous week staying at Round House East. From my initial contact we Ian I felt we were in for a lovely stay. The house was perfectly situated , a pub around the corner , a village shop and wonderful walks for us and our 2 dogs. We have stayed in many holiday cottages and this is certainly one of the best. Lovely bedroom with supersize bed and so comfortable , we both slept likes logs A great little garden to sit in the sun and for the dogs to laze on the grass All in all a great place to stay

Jo, Hitchin

We had a fantastic week at the Round House. He loved the quirkiness of the accommodation and found it extremely comfortable, warm and offering many home comforts. Communication with Ian was very good and he gave some excellent recommendations of places to visit and eat. We would highly recommend the Watch House at St Mawes and the Hidden Hut where we enjoyed some amazing food. This is a wonderful part of England. We walked on the Coastal Path and found lots of coves and lovely beaches. Definitely worth 5 stars. A very memorable trip

Emma, Leicestershire

Needing a week away during this difficult year we chose Round House East and are very pleased that we did. Such a beautiful cottage, both inside and out. Very clean and well equipped inside and a lovely, well kept garden. The Kings Head in Ruan Lanihorne and The Roseland Inn in Philleigh are both definitely worth a visit, amazing food and a great selection of beers & wines. We really can’t fault the cottage or our week away and we’ll certainly visit again.

Location

The neighbourhood

The friendly village of Veryan is on the Roseland Peninsula, close to St. Mawes and within easy reach of Truro, via the King Harry Ferry - voted one of the most scenic ferry trips in the world. The welcoming New Inn serves St Austell beers and good pub food and is just 150 yards from the Roundhouse. The village also has a shop, Post Office and a weekly W.I. market. The South West Coastal Path is close by, it’s a 1.5 mile walk to Portloe beach with pretty Carne and Pendower nearby.

Local points of interest from Ian Rose

  • The Hidden Hut is an hour or so's walk along the coast path, perfect for lunch or, if you can get a table, supper on one of their feast nights.
  • Walk down from St Anthony Head to the beaches at Great Molunan or Little Molunan. Great views over the Fal Estuary and Carrick Roads and maybe have a swim.
  • Freshly caught crab, hand-picked and ready to eat, scallops and whatever fish has come in with the boat, from Curgurrell Farm. Wonderful with Da Bara crusty bread and Camel Valley sparkling wine.
  • Walk to Melinsey Mill via Pendower Beach, take tea and enjoy their home-made cakes, or some quiche with a glass of Betty Stogg's, brewed by Skinner's Brewery in Truro.
  • Pop over to Da Bara bakery cafe to pick up amazing bread (we love the sourdough), pastries and pies, and fantastic coffee - they have specials for dinner once a week too.
