The Experience

A long, unmade road takes you through trees, eventually opening out into a small farmstead and the Barn. Its south-facing decking overlooks an orchard and the owners’ home is just next door. You can’t hear anything except the trees rustling and birds chirruping.

Mark and Bryher are warm and kind and leave you fresh flowers, butter, just-laid eggs, Cornish soaps, treats and toys for children. Your kitchen is at the end of the open-plan barn with plenty of workspace and all the gear even a fussy cook wants. You can buy pork, lamb and eggs from the farm and the fresh fish man comes on Thursdays; order a Riverford Organic veg box ahead.

There are 12 acres of farmland with woods for den building, plus animals to feed and a myriad of walking trails. Join the public footpath just beside you for a walk to the local pub then a spot of crabbing in the creek at Point Quay. Return to light the wood-burner on chilly evenings, or fire up the barbecue when it’s balmy and listen to the owls hoot as the stars make their grand entrance.

Reviews

I had a lovely visit to The Old Barn and was made really welcome. It's a gorgeous and charming bolthole for adults and families who want to really escape, but near the footpath so a walkers and wildlife lovers paradise. A 20-minute walk takes you to the sublime setting of Point Creek. Its not totally isolated, the owners live near but not attached and its not far to get supplies or get out and about. The Old Barn exudes charm, is arranged upside down to make best use of space and is equally great as a base to explore or a lovely space to just curl up and relax at home.

Just returned from a wonderful stay at the Old Barn at Tresithick. Our friendly host and hostess, Mark and Bryher have renovated the barn to a very high standard with a good working kitchen and comfortable and attractive bedrooms and bathroom. It was especially kind of them to supply, upon our arrival, a Cornish cream tea and fresh eggs straight from their hens. Two local pubs that serve food are within walking distance as is the excellent Spar shop and butcher's at Carnon Downs. Our hosts had thoughtfully sent maps and directions for local footpath walks. A lovely week's holiday!

Lovely cottage with all the facilities you could need. Great lounge and cooking area if you wish to self cater A very good shower room providing a powerful shower and plenty of hot water. Wonderfully quiet area full of wildlife and wonderful smelling flowers There is a wood burning stove and heating for the colder evenings. Bryer and Mark are the best hosts leaving delicious homemade bread or cream tea plus a starter pack. Nothing was too much trouble. Should you get to meet John he is delight. We will be returning for a longer break again. The area is perfectly to access all areas.

We had two lovely weeks in the Old Barn. The cottage is bright, very well equipped and offered plenty of space for us and our two dogs. It had everything you could need including a very comfortable bed to rest up after walking the Coastal paths. We had a warm welcome with flowers and a delicious Cornish cream tea. Everything was perfect - a place where we would like to return.

I can't speak highly enough! The Old Barn is beautiful, the hosts are exceptional and the location is incredibly beautiful. We were blessed with fantastic weather which only added to a fantastic 5 days at The Old Barn. The property is light filled and cosy at the same time. Bryher & Mark made us feel so welcome from fresh scones and crabbing kits to treats and toys for the dog. They think of everything; we will definitely be going back again.

Location

The neighbourhood

You can walk to the village shop at Carnon Downs in about 20 minutes. Equidistant is Point - a small, very pretty village with a chapel on a promontory where Penpol Creek meets Restronguet Creek. Truro is a short drive for really good restaurants, Falmouth just a bit further for the National Maritime Museum and the ferry to St Mawes. You're near to gentle beaches on the south coast for days out with a picnic or wavy north coast sands for surfing and bodyboarding.

Local points of interest from Bryher & Mark Hole

  • Amble down the various footpaths to the creek. Then walk along the old tramway marvelling at the sheer beauty and the abundant birdlife. The Old Quay Inn at historic Devoran is well placed for a good lunch.
  • Loe Beach is a great watersports beach where you can hire kayaks and boats or have lessons. Alternatively, you can soak up the local, nautical atmosphere in the excellent beach café. (5 mins away by car or 45 mins walk alongside the creek.)
  • NT Trelissick is 5 mins away and has a beautiful country house and garden set in an old Cornish estate with stunning maritime views and lovely woodland walks. From the jetty you can hop on a Fal river boat to discover Falmouth by sea.
  • The award winning 13th Century Pandora Inn is 15 min drive. Its spectacular setting on the edge of Restronguet Creek, it's thatched roof and low beamed ceilings are timeless. The jetty is the perfect spot for kids to go crabbing making everyone happy.
  • Cycle along nearby Bissoe Trail on traffic free paths through Cornwall’s historical mining landscape. From the calm of Devoran on the S Coast to the rugged fishing village of Portreath on the N coast with a great Cornish pub halfway.
  • The King Harry Ferry allows you to avoid congested roads and enjoy a short scenic river crossing to the beautiful Roseland Peninsula. Here you can explore the quiet sandy beaches, and quaint fishing villages.

Introducing

Bryher & Mark Hole

Mark and Bryher have been here for quite some time now. They first of all renovated their own lovely home then started work on the Barn. Bryher is always out and about on the farmstead looking after her animals and the garden. They both love sharing their place with like-minded country lovers who will enjoy all that they've got to offer. You'll also meet Madge the terrier, Lurcher cross Isla and lots of sheep and hens.
