The
Experience

Find oak beams and shutters, small-paned windows and thick old walls in this pretty cottage surrounded by glorious gardens and stunning countryside. Horticulturist Sarah gardens with wildlife in mind and has her own beehives and a walled vegetable garden – any summer/autumn excess is offered to you.

It’s a generous place too, with wine, cake and basics left for you but also free bikes and back packs for perfect picnics. Stroll to Cartmel for Michelin-starred food in L’Enclume, Unsworth Yard for a bakery, cheese shop, brewery and wine merchant, or enjoy a pint in one of the riverside pubs.

Visit Holker Hall or Levens – both have fabulous gardens – then return to a stylish kitchen, a sociable place to cook and eat together while admiring the garden views through the stable door from the bistro table. Sink into the large comfortable sofa in front of the wood-burner to chat about today’s – and plan tomorrow’s – adventures.

Reviews

We thoroughly enjoyed our quiet and relaxing stay. Cartmel has plenty of good pubs/resturants and we particularly enjoyed pizza and beer/wine at the Unsworths on the Saturday night. Sarh and Stewart were on hand and were very helpful and amenable.

We had such a wonderful holiday staying at Crumble Cottage. Sarah and Stewart were so welcoming and helpful and they have created such a beautiful place to stay. The cottage is really comfortable, with everything you could need. The gardens are stunning. It’s a short walk from Cartmel which is such a gorgeous village, and a short drive from Lake Windermere and Coniston, where we went on some amazing walks and found lots of great places to eat. We will definitely be back!

Juliette, London

This is a well designed and cosy cottage with all home comforts considered and catered for. Thoughtful touches, such as flowers and little treats, from the (very discreet) owners add to the charm. Cottage is nicely buffered from the owners house and adjacent cottage by good layout and design of outside space. The property feels secluded but is within walking distance of Cartmel and there are a number of walks straight from the door. Have stayed twice and really felt relaxed and a little sad to leave each time.

Jo, York

We recently stayed in crumble cottage. What a beautiful place set in a charming part of the world. Ideally suited for exploring the Cartmel Peninsula and a sort walk from the village itself. Crumble cottage is superbly decorated with high end fixtures and fittings. The bathroom is one of the nicest we have stayed in. The kitchen is excellently equipped. Sarah and Stewart are extremely friendly and helpful. We would go there again tomorrow!

Dan, Midsomer norton

Beautiful cottage with everything one could possibly want - well equipped kitchen, delightful bathroom, log burner and a huge bed with pillows like clouds. Sarah and Stewart are excellent and helpful hosts. Cartmel village a stroll away and the majestic lakes an easy drive. There are loads of nearby attractions, the village has great pubs and if it rains, hole up and enjoy a round of Scrabble, provided in the box of goodies. We'd thoroughly recommend this cottage.

Jo, St ives, cambridgeshire

A gorgeous cottage in a stunning location with amazing hosts. Thank you Sarah and Stewart for making our long weekend perfect. We cannot wait to visit again.

Kate, St helens

Cosy, comfortable and quirky .. with little thoughtful special touches which make you smile … you need to go to find out!! Smart shower room, and well equipped kitchen .. and super living space with a dining table by the huge window giving lots of natural light!! The gallery bedroom was lovely. We really liked the flowers and herbs right outside of our door …pretty and tasty too!! Stewart and Sarah are working incredibly hard making a special place for visitors, as well as a haven for wildlife; the gardens, ponds and cottages are a credit to them!! We didn't want to leave. A brilliantly well thought out layout that perfectly blends the original features with all modern amenities, the photos don’t do it justice. We immediately felt relaxed and at home and couldn’t have wished for a better location as wonderfully peaceful but only five minutes from the centre of Cartmel. We booked the optional hot tub which was fantastic after a hard day hiking and really did add to the luxury feel. Sarah and Stewart are also the perfect hosts as lovely to chat to and get some recommendations but left you with plenty of privacy to enjoy what is an idyllic romantic break.

Shayne, Nottingham

Crumble Cottage was heaven. Perfect location to visit the West Coast and Southern Lakes and on our 4 night stay we certainly made full use of the ambience and location of the cottage. It was brilliant to be wakened in the morning by the Morning Bird Chorus. The cottage has been built to the highest standards and has everything you would want even a log burner. Nearby Cartmel has some wonderful restaurants serving great food and cask beers, don't miss a visit to the micro brewery and cheese shop. Cannot wait to revisit in near future.

Excellent.Great location and very accommodating owners...

Pete, Manchester

A beautiful cottage in a great location (down the road from the lovely Cartmel). We would love to have seen the garden in full bloom in the summer, but it was a very cosy holiday home in the winter. The perfect place for our first visit to the Lake District.

Holly, London

Perfection in miniature. This tiny cottage has everything you could want for a getaway romantic break. Great location, great facilities and welcoming and friendly hosts. We'll be back!

Phil, Glasgow

We can highly recommend Crumble Cottage. We arrived to a basket of vegetables and fruit a jug of herbs and vases of sweet peas all from the garden, lovingly cared for by Sarah and Stewart. The cottage was beautifully prepared for us and Sarah and Stewart were on hand every day always unobtrusive so we felt we were on our own. We did enjoy their company and conversation. Cartmel and the surrounding area was beautiful and some super places to eat particularly in Cartmel from budget to Michelin Star.

Helen, Richmond

We had a magical stay, The cottage was really beautiful, we were given a lovely warm welcome and made to feel very at home. The attention to detail was excellent the complimentary bottle of wine being a particularly nice touch. I enjoyed the walk into Cartmel which is charming and strongly recommend the double decker bus ride to Grange via the villages, it is a must !! We look forward to coming back to stay again so a big thank you to Sarah and Stuart

Hugh, Guildford

What a fabulous cottage in the most stunning location. Everything to make your stay relaxing and comfortable has been provided by Sarah and Stewart. Spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. Cartmel village is close by with lots of gourmet delights and its own racecourse. Will definitely return.

Angela, Wilmslow

Our short break in Cartmel was fantastic & it was wonderful having such a beautiful, homely & luxurious place to base ourselves. Sarah & Stewart were so friendly & the little touches of a birthday message, wine, cake & fresh vegetables on arrival were really touching. Crumble Cottage is beautifully laid out & comfortable. The setting is stunning & quiet but within walking distance of all that Cartmel has to offer. We would highly recommend It to anyone looking for a lovely hideaway to relax in. We will definitely be returning!

Nancy, York

Crumble Cottage is a gorgeous place to stay just south of the Lake District. We enjoyed 4 days relaxing here on our mini-moon and we had such a great time. Ideally located within walking distance of the 2 Michelin star restaurant l'enclume in Cartmel village and just a 30 minute car ride away from the very best walks and scenic routes that the Lake District has to offer. Crumble cottage with its wood burner is a delight to come home to after a day walking the lakes and the hills of the Lake District and the bed is so super cosy that you will almost definitely have a great night's sleep!!

Kate, London
