The Experience

There’s a definite wow factor here. Built into the hillside above Bowness and made famous by Grand Designs, this extraordinary modern building has sweeping views across Windermere to the central fells.

But for all its drama, it feels remarkably relaxed. Dave and Hayley look after guests with warmth and flair (her cooking is a major part of the experience). Expect generous breakfasts made to your liking and, if you choose dinner, six-course tasting menus that change seasonally. The vast open-plan living and dining space is made for lingering over food and conversation, with a full-length balcony for those views.

Five spacious suites have super-king beds, four have seating areas and three look out over the lake. When you’re not out walking, do laps in the heated indoor pool, have a sauna or sink into the hot tub, challenge someone in the games room, or simply settle into an armchair and watch the light play across the distant lake.

Reviews

What an amazing place – we're running out of superlatives! Yvonne, Dave and Hayley have spared no expense and carefully thought through ways to make a stay here a truly memorable experience. The rooms and facilities are extra special and all the menus sound really mouth-watering. We were also struck by the hosts' enthusiasm to learn about and cater for every individual guest's preferences.
