The Experience
A warm Edwardian country house with afternoon tea, croquet on the lawn, glorious views to fells and lake and attentive, kind staff – no wonder there are so many repeat guests. Take a book or a newspaper to one of the inviting sitting rooms, where fires are cheering in winter and all is well with the world; in summer you can find a quiet spot on the terrace looking out for birds.
Light pours into traditional bedrooms (some very spacious, others cosy) with modern lighting and big inviting beds with crisp white linen; bathrooms are light and modern. Wake to scrumptious breakfasts with incredible views – a full English with dry cured back bacon, Cumbrian sausages and the rest, a vegetarian option or smoked haddock with vine tomatoes and spinach.
Head to the 1909 restaurant in the evenings for lovely, tasty food. Most of the ingredients come from local farms within 15 miles of the hotel.
