The Experience

It’s a well thought-out place with lots of spoiling touches – fluffy robes, thick towels, Barbours and wellies, an honesty bar and a welcome basket bursting with local treats and a bottle of champagne. The hunting lodge-style sitting room has plenty of comfortable seating for all by the log fire, and the beautiful beamed dining room is just made for convivial meals.

Upstairs bedrooms are mostly a good size, with lovely views and smartly dressed beds, both bathrooms (one with a bath, the other a shower) are sparkling. The large range cooker will excite keen cooks and the not so keen can easily find their way to the pub across the fields. Outside caterers can be arranged too.

Spend long summer evenings in the garden by the fire pit, admiring the bucolic views and breathing in the freshest air. Walks from the door will be sublime – you’re well placed for the Lakes and the Dales and this is the prettiest spot, ideal for get-togethers.

What a lovely place to come for a week of relaxation in the beautiful Upper Eden Valley. Curlews calling (in springtime), red squirrels visiting and local walks either through calming hay meadows or to dramatic hilltops. The farmhouse is an experience in itself, combining luxury with the preservation of historic features like the old dairy room and the Georgian fireplace.

Beautiful family stay in the Farmhouse. Perfect setting for a relaxing break in a farmhouse full of original features and character. There is everything that you need and more. Loved the log burner and open fires. Upon arrival, the house was perfectly clean and well presented, including a champagne welcome basket and birthday cake with candles . Superb views across the fields filled with sheep and lambs, across to the hills.

The farmhouse is a wonderful, charming and well-equipped house. It is decorated and furnished to a level not often seen in holiday-rental properties. It is conveniently situated in a lovely part of Cumbria, close by is the quintessential village of Ravenstonedale. I have been staying there, with friends since 2014 and have frequented the house on many occasion's since. It is so charming and relaxing and I would defiantly recommend it to anyone

The neighbourhood

You're in the unspoilt Eden Valley, where curlews soar and red squirrels visit. Lots of footpaths crisscross the landscape – climb Wild Boar Fell for dramatic views, or walk across five fields to the pub. Ravenstonedale village is a short drive, lovely Kirkby Stephen and Sedbergh about 10 minutes by car for restaurants, tea rooms and shops. Hop on the Settle to Carlisle train.

  • Champagne welcome hamper, full of home-made & local treats: our own eggs, juice, milk and home-made sourdough bread for breakfast, sweet & savoury nibbles for the evening, award winning home-made cake and a bottle of fizz!
  • Situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and only 30 minutes away from for a day out in the Lake District, or why not just walk from the door - lots of routes to take and not a soul to be seen for miles!
  • There are two Special Places to Eat & Drink Nearby - The Kings Head Hotel and The Black Swan, both of which are in Ravenstonedale village. The Fat Lamb Inn within walking distance across the fields (10% off food), another four pubs within a 10 minute drive
  • Riding, mountain bikes, outdoor adventures, fishing lessons, cookery classes, paragliding, clay pigeon shooting can all be arranged nearby.
  • Visit Kirkby Lonsdale, a small town brimming with independent boutique shops & cafes, or Sedbergh, the ‘book town’ of the north, dotted with antique shops too. Kirkby Stephen is a great tourist town, only 10 minutes drive away.
  • Large it up: bring all your friends (up to 16) and take over Angel Barn & Shepherd's Cottage on a self catering basis. Or why not have your own 'private chef' - catered meals can be arranged through some great companies nearby.

Introducing

Debbie & Richard Greaves

Debbie and Richard fell in love with the farmhouse when it was derelict, and have put Herculean efforts into restoring it and the barns – sensitively and sustainably, with solar panels, sheep's wool insulation, a ground-source heat pump and a wood-pellet boiler. They did almost all the work themselves and look after guests with a great deal of care and consideration.
