The Experience

This is just the right size for two. Downstairs is a kitchen with all you need to cook up a storm and Portmeirion Sophie Conran pottery to serve it up on. You’re also left some Ashbourne traditional gingerbread biscuits and a box of popcorn so you can settle into a movie in the sitting room – or in the dining area. The huge TV can be swivelled between the two rooms and offers every digital channel available plus you can play your own music on it.

The Italian designer lighting is well thought-out and each piece of modern furniture has been carefully chosen to blend with the lovely original stonework or pretty brickwork in the kitchen, there’s even a little separate study area for anybody who needs to work. After a day walking or cycling in the Peak District you’ll be delighted with the warm downstairs bathroom and walk-in shower.

The bedroom, up in the eaves, has a king size bed with cosy fur throws and cushions, very tempting.

Phil, Cornwall

A high quality cottage with historic charm and brilliantly modernised. A dream stay in a place that's full of character, has excellent (amazing) facilities and as hosts Clive and Mari are amazing.

Sara, Sennen

Clive and Mari could not have been more welcoming and helpful. No.42 was a fantastic base to explore the very beautiful Peak District. We could have stayed another week! Clive was so helpful with the booking, showing us the parking, carrying cases! No.42 was immaculate and the kitchen had everything we needed, if we wanted to cook. However Ashbourne has some great bars and restaurants so cooking was not essential. Recommendations for Ashbourne - Couplings Wine Bar, the sharing platers are fabulous.Smiths Tavern ,if you like Cask ales and The Bowling Green Steak House, for a good steak.

Marion, Newcastle upon Tyne

The hosts are brilliant with excellent help and communication through the booking procees to arrival. The accommodation is exceptional, with attention to detail and comfort. The garden is a delight to sit outside in sun or shade. I was made welcome, slept well, enjoyed meeting Clive & Mari and left much refreshed and relaxed. Ashbourne is a pleasant town with independent shops to explore and a wealth of architecture, predominantly Georgian with remnants of Mediaeval. Staying in Pegges Alms Houses is a real treat.

Sophie, Malta

Our cottage was as peaceful and lovely as the scenery of the neighbourhood and our gracious hosts! It is one of those places that you think of as “a home away from home” and by the time your trip is over, you don’t want to leave!! Bonus points for the friendly cat Rascal who would be outside enjoying the fresh air and always up for a cuddle!
