The Experience
The cottage originally formed part of the owners’ listed farmhouse, now the ancient farm is managed organically. In the summer the meadows brim with wild flowers and named sheep and cows are treated as family friends.
A comfy sofa and chairs surround the old black range; wooden floors, richly-coloured rugs and embroideries add to the cottagey feel. Bedrooms (one double and a twin) are traditional and comfortable with pretty fabrics. Add a small, stone-walled cottage garden, an iron table on a lawn and those wonderful views and you should unwind and relax.
Susan leaves you homemade scones, bread, jam and eggs from the hens you can say hello to outside. There’s a gastro pub just a mile up the road – The George at Alstonefield. Ashbourne, with its winding cobbled streets is a 15- minute drive.

We had the most wonderful time at this beautiful cottage! The place is charming, cosy, spotless and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed. The setting is stunning - surrounded by peaceful countryside, gorgeous views and amazing walks from our cottage door. It is the perfect spot to relax, unwind and explore. Susan and James were so warm and welcoming and always nearby if we needed anything - and gave great advice on local walks! The welcome freshly made scones, bread and farm eggs were amazing and such a lovely touch. We couldn’t have asked for a lovelier stay - thank you.

Church Farm Cottage is the cleanest, most well kept and equipped holiday accommodation I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. I had such peace and comfort the entire stay. Susan and James provided the most delicious scones, bread, eggs from their own chickens, and milk! There were helpful, thoughtful instructional signs throughout the cottage I stayed in. You could feel the thought and pride they put into every detail, and they checked in to ensure things were going as planned - kept going the extra mile. I will for another restful stay. Thank you Susan and James!

Church Farm Cottage is the most idyllic please anyone could wish to stay. Right in the heart of the Peak District National Park it offers Gold Star rated accommodation and a short walk across the farm yard and down the track, is the amazingly beautiful Hall Dale. The Cottage really is immaculate, well equipped and we loved it. In fact, we have been loving for the past 25 years by going there regularly since our children were small! It has made such an impression on them that they have brought their children here too! Susan and James are super, friendly hosts and we will be back again!

Introducing
Susan Franks
Susan, an applied mathematician, and James, a mechanical engineer, enjoy their life in this stunning area with their hens and ducks that roam free, their Red and White Irish setter, Fergus, and 3 cats: Ellie, Treacle and Maine Coon, Lily. Farming organically they treat their animals with love and respect and work hard to conserve their land, wildflowers and herbs, and dry stone walls.
We really enjoyed our week in the cottage. The cottage itself is gorgeous and exceptionally comfortable and well equipped. It sits in beautiful countryside and we had some wonderful walks straight from the cottage door. It’s also well situated for trips out, such as to Chatsworth, Ashbourne and Ilam. Susan and James were always friendly and helpful.
