The Experience
Reached via a narrow winding road, the unspoilt village is perched on a plateau between two river gorges, with a church, a green, a pond. As for the barn, it’s a 1720s gem, sympathetically revived, warm and spacious inside and full of quirky pieces. You enter the sitting room (once the cowshed) with its flagged floor, now restored; there’s a comfy sofa facing the log-burner, original shutters at windows and farming artefacts on the walls.
A separate dining room leads to a super kitchen where you’ll find crémant and chocolates waiting, then a patio with stunning views. Your cosy low-ceilinged bedroom is at the other end, and continues the country theme.
Guide books, maps, jigsaws, a basket of logs… welcome touches all, and there’s more fun to come at the top of the outside stair: snooker, a piano, a wood-burner, and floor-to-ceiling books. Walks from the door take you into the Dovedale valley and lovely countryside.

We think you'll love
- The seclusion and the magnificent Peak District walks – remarkably you'll have most of them to yourselves
- Having supper outside on warm evenings – there are several seating areas and the views are dramatic
- Nipping up to the pub, half a mile, for a pint on a summer evening
You should know
- Sorry, no dogs
- It's probably best to arrive in daylight – the road is narrow and there are no street lights

A lovely, relaxing few days in your perfect cottage. Love the attention to detail, the furnishings and fittings. Wonderful walks right on the doorstep and we had amazing weather, sunshine every day. The icing on the cake was our meal at The George tonight, lovely atmosphere and fab food.

We visited the lovely Hope Farm House barn over the new year, 2017/8. The accommodation is comfortable, cosy and welcoming for a winter visit, with wood burning stoves and efficient heating and the bonus of a full size snooker table and comfortable library upstairs! The barn is perfect for a couple looking for space and privacy, and ideally located with excellent access to lovely walks in the Peaks District from the door. Also nearby are the villages of Alstonefield with a great pub to eat in and the lovely Hartington with a great village store. We will certainly be back!

The neighbourhood
Hartington is less than 10 minutes by car for a good village shop, pubs and cafés. Join the Tissington Trail bike route, two miles, or head to Arbour Low for a mini Stonehenge. Ashbourne with its perfect Georgian buildings is seven miles for bigger shops, a cinema and lots of antiques. Bakewell, renowned for its market, is half an hour, as are Leek and Buxton.

Our second stay in your lovely, cosy, peaceful barn. We found even more fantastic walks and had good weather too. The walk along the Dove into Hartington and return through Narrowdale was our favourite, helped by tea and cake midway! We just love the area and the attention to detail found in the barn. The upstairs room with snooker table and comfy leather sofas is an added bonus - I even managed to finish the jigsaw I worked on in September! Thank you Ruth and Nick.
